Summary

‘An exciting new writer – sharp, compelling and original’ – Mark Lawrence

Years have passed since the Vagrant journeyed to the Shining City, Vesper in arm and Gamma’s sword in hand.

Since then the world has changed. Vesper, following the footsteps of her father, journeyed to the breach and closed the tear between worlds, protecting the last of humanity, but also trapping the infernal horde and all those that fell to its corruptions: willing or otherwise.

In this new age it is Vesper who leads the charge towards unity and peace, with seemingly nothing standing between the world and a bright new future.

That is until eyes open.

And The Seven awaken.

A fitting end

Another great instalment. Great characterisation brought to life by excellent storytelling. An interesting realisation of change bringing strength and self doubt sadness and acceptance. An engaging listen.

A decent ending to a trilogy.

Although it does not match "The Vagrant", it is better than "The Malice". The story has some decent suprises making it interesting.

Love, loss, imperfection and hope

A wonderful and fitting end to a transformative trilogy. I’ve never before encountered a series with such a dark setting but so much light in its characters. There’s no grimdark here - the central characters strive to change and improve and bring hope and understanding. They don’t always get it right, but they always work to make things better than they are. I loved it from start to finish.

My only caveat is that the audiobook narration itself is slow, and I found I needed to listen at 1.5x speed (the fastest I’ve ever had to set the speed). It was hard to engage at 1x speed. Others might not find this, but it’s worth mentioning for those who might likewise struggle with the pace of narration.

Excellent end to an original trilogy

Definitely the pick of the trilogy bringing together the complex characters introduced in the previous books. Some great ideas from Newman and a fine performance from Davies.

Jot is great with voices but can send you to sleep

Jot is one of the most gifted narrators around in terms of skills at doing different voices, this has shown in the entire trilogy, that said his voice is so calming it can easily make you sleepy or easy for the story telling to become more of a background noise that you're not paying attention to. I reckon he would be great at meditation books.

The story pretty much follows the same trend as the previous book, both of which are fairly different from the first in style. It's called the Vagrant Trilogy but to be honest the Vagrant himself is only really the star in the first book and his status as "world renown respected hero" has a weak story to how he became this status.

I did enjoy the humour of the baby and goats in the series though.

A powerful ending to an exceptional series.

A ending that does all that comes before it justice. I am loathe to write anything that might give anything away but I will be revisiting this series again and again.
