Summary
The End, Rena wrote on the calendar square.
Rena Abrios, the only living seer on the planet of Anyari, has her most horrific vision yet - she foresees the apocalypse.
Soon, nearly every human on her peaceful, technologically advanced planet will die. Rena even knows who’s behind it: philanthropist Alvun Merak.
This type of prophecy can’t be averted. Despite that, Rena believes her sister, 17-year-old Ellin, is meant to fight it.
The more Ellin learns about Merak, the more alarmed she becomes. He’s funding an archeological dig with mysterious, world-ending potential. Ellin, her boyfriend Trett, and Rena scramble to stop him.
But Merak’s wealth and power may make him unbeatable. And the seer and her sister know that fate is the fiercest enemy of all.
Will anyone survive the prophesied apocalypse?
The Seer’s Sister is the exciting sci-fi prequel to The Magic Eaters YA fantasy trilogy. It’s a full-length novel that can be listened to before or after the trilogy or as a stand-alone. If you like imperfect characters worth rooting for, villains with dark secrets, and in-depth worldbuilding, then you’ll love Carol Beth Anderson’s heart-pounding tale.
Content note: The Seer’s Sister contains scenes of abduction and captivity, along with plot lines relating to cancer and death, including discussion of a child’s death.

A great prequel to The Magic Eaters Trilogy
The prequel of The Magic Eaters Trilogy goes back to a short time before the apocalyptic event that destroyed most of the population of Anyari. The story focuses on the sisters Rena and Ellin.
Rena is the only living seer and her talent has been kept a secret. Most of her predictions are immutable, so cannot be changed. She has an immutable vision of the end of the world, but also that her sister Ellin must try to stop the event.
Ellin has a hard time accepting her fate, but comes round and together with her boyfriend Trett and her sister Rena they set out to attempt the impossible task.
They discover that they are up against the richest and most powerful man in their world...
Initially all three main characters annoyed the heck out of me, but I grew to understand Rena and Ellin and the events that formed their personalities.
As always Beth created characters that are relatable and sometimes irritating, because they are so real and human, warts and all.
I loved finding out more about the technologically advanced Anyaran world before the apocalypse and what exactly happened on ‘The Day’ and would actually like to see more stories from that time period.
I have to be honest and say that I don’t think the prequel is as good as the wonderful Magic Eaters trilogy, but still a great read and the perfect way to experience the end before the beginning!
The author narrated the novel herself and is a pleasure to listen to. Beth reads at a good pace with clear and concise diction.
I received this book in audio book format from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.

The book takes you back to before The Day
Rena sees the end of the world is coming in just 2 months, though she doesn't really know how or why. It's a prophecy that can't be changed, but despite that she and her sister know they have to try.
The book takes you back to before The Day, the time when everything changed and the world became the way it is in the Magic Eaters Trilogy. I think this was the best of the series, it was gripping and emotional. It was fascinating to find out about the stone and how it affected everyone.

Superb, even when knowing what comes after The Day
The Seer's Sister is a fabulous tale in its own right, also adding background and depth to Anderson's Magic Eaters trilogy.
Having the book read by the author let me hear her emphasis in places I hadn't heard it through the written text.
An entirely different experience, and a thoroughly enjoyable one at that.

enjoyable magical realism book
this book is 0 is a series and can be read as a prequel to a trilogy - the magic eaters - before or after. I chose to read it before the other trilogy. A great story and premise that sucked me right in from the start. a magical realism theme. I was in a bit of a reading rut and this book had me hooked and I listened in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. The story is great with interesting characters and I never felt like I was missing out on anything by not having read the trilogy. you can definitely can start with this book, as I have and highly recommend this book. The only downside is to my purse because now I need to buy the next three! This version is read by the author who does a fantastic job and I could happily listen to this narrator at normal speed and speeded up to 2, both sounded great.

Great prequel
Loved this prequel!! It explains so many questions I had when I was enjoying the main series! This one not only gave me answers but had action, suspense and gasping moments!!

A spell binding listen
A prequel to the story to a fantastic fantasy . The author Carol wrote a very detailed story. The details make you think your with Rena the heroine and her sister The word building is strong just continues the strength of the story .
Rena is caught in a bind , she saw a vision of the end of the world. She tries to change the vision but it doesn’t change. Rena and her sister will try everything to save it
Carol Beth the authors performance telling is story is great. You get to see it from her eyes. The tone for each details are great

This was just so so good!
This was very good story when I first read it but I'm pretty sure listening to it on audio made it even better. The author/narrator really knows how to bring a story to life through both word and voice. I'm amazed every time by how talented Carol Beth Anderson is! I started reading the Magic Eaters trilogy last year by chance. And I fell in love with the story and the characters and the writing but, most of all, with the setting - those books happen in a world you just want to explore more and more and that keeps surprising you, a world that started after it ended, in a way. In that first book, the Frost Eater, all the chapters started with a small excerpt from a book written a few years after The Day, the day when the world ended but some survived and that gave us more details about the intriguing world. Needless to say, those little excerpts where one of my favourite parts of the book (and I was disappointed the excerpts where from other things in the subsequent books). All this to say, this prequel - a prequel that stands on its own in all aspects - is what those excerpts made me wonder but didn’t explain - although this story is set right before The Day and not after. And it’s so very, very good. Pair that with great characters, a good plot, tension and love and everything, good writing and you get a great thought-provoking story. I could sit here writing more and more about it but I think I need to go finish all the books I started throughout the school year and have not yet finished so I can reread the Trilogy again, now with this story in mind.
