About this listen

As I saw my newborn baby’s face for the first time, I tried desperately to capture her face in my mind - to stamp it onto my eyelids. As she was taken from me, I knew I might never see my daughter again.

Thirty-seven years later... 'You were adopted'. Three short words and Sabina’s life fractures. There would forever be a before those words and an after.

Pregnant with her own child, Sabina can’t understand how a mother could abandon her daughter or why her parents have kept the past a secret. Determined to find the woman who gave her away, what she discovers will change everything, not just for Sabina but for the women who have loved her all these years.

From the best-selling author of Me Without You comes another touching, beautifully told story about the pain of separation and the enduring strength of love.

an amazing story

I loved this story.
some times life just isn't as straight forward as we expect it should be. mistakes made by people of power in the past can take decades to be made right if ever that can at all.
be prepared to shed tears of sadness and happiness. settle in you may not want to put this book down until you are finished.

Fabulous insight so well written

Great character development.
My only personal observation is that I belueve this book sits on the fence but that's ok.
In reality we all know historically apologises were given by the government for the treatment of these girls. I really think that perhaps some people were treated over harshly in the book where as others were let off. Hmm I'm still mulling this all over, I felt it tried to reset abolish a level playing field which could not be achieved. This is not to say I didn't love this book!
I was enraptured from page one and every page to the end.
Absolutely first rate writing and fabulous narrator too
5 amazing stars.

Really enjoyable

Any additional comments?

Not normally the type of book i would buy but it was a really addictive read. The only downside was at the end the scape goat was not a carachter within the book. Which to me was a wasted chance for a bit of gasp shock horror! Vanessa Coffey's voice was absolutely perfect for this book.

Good. Tear inducing. But occasionally wishy washy!

Good narrator. Plot a bit thin. Some chapters were disappointing. Overall OK but not Rimmer's finest

Failed to reach expectation

Sabina, a pregnant 38 year old, discovers that she was adopted at birth, so sets out to discover how this came about, who her birth parents were and why these facts were hidden from her. I was expecting a strong emotional story but somehow it failed to reach expectation.

The story is told from the perspective of Sabina, her adoptive mother Megan and her birth mother Lily but none of the characters showed any real depth or expressed strong feeling about the events leading up to the adoption. Although well written and a potentially good storyline, for me it became tedious and cringe worthy. Just not a page turner!

The book told a very moving story. Bit slow in places but keep with it as it does have a lovely ending
