Summary

Another collection of G.K. Chesterton's ingenious, thoughtful, and lyrically written mystery stories featuring the unassuming little priest who solves crimes by imagining himself inside the mind and soul of criminals, thus understanding their motives. The stories are full of paradox, spiritual insight, and "Chestertonian fantasy," or seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. In the title story, a beautiful (and married) rich woman has taken up with a distinguished poet and Father Brown, rather than reacting as expected, appears to be providing assistance.

GKC's last FB collection but 5 great stories

Of all the many famous detectives English writers have created, I don't think there can be much doubt : the Father Brown stories are the best written with a sparkling literary style and full of theological wisdom. This collection was published only a year before Chesterton died, and it's true a few of this final set of Father Brown tales are weaker. And four have been omitted for this audiobook. But the rest are - in my humble opinion - as good as anything GKC wrote. And they are very well read by Stephen Scalon unlike e.g. Frederick Davidson irritating RP accent..
