FOUR CHILLING TRUE CRIME STORIES IN ONE COLLECTION FROM THE BEST-SELLING AUTHOR RYAN GREEN

Volume eight contains some of Green’s most intriguing accounts of violence, abuse, deception and murder. Within this collection, you'll receive:

The Monster Within: A True Story of Bloodthirst, Brutality and Barbaric Evil
Prostitutes and animals could no longer satisfy Peter Kürten’s sexual deviancy. No one was safe. He committed ferocious attacks, sexual assaults and murder against men, women and children. Ryan Green’s riveting narrative draws the listener into the real-live horror experienced by the victims and has all the elements of a classic thriller.

Smile: Behind the Lens of the ‘Dating Game Killer’
Cheryl Bradshaw was a contestant on the popular TV matchmaking show, ‘The Dating Game’. From a lineup of eligible bachelors, she selected the handsome daredevil photographer, Rodney Alcala. A chilling truth lurked behind the camera lens. Rodney Alcala was a serial killer in the midst of a chilling rampage. Hiding in plain sight.

The Baby Farm Murders: The Terrifying Case of the Angel-Maker, Amelia Dyer
Evelina Marmon gave birth to her daughter, Doris. As was typical of the era, she pursued adoption to ensure a more stable future for her child. She believed she found a solution in Mrs. Harding, who would provide a loving home for her child as a nurse and a respectable married woman. However, her intentions were far from caring for Doris. In fact, she wasn’t married, and her real name was Amelia Dyer.

The Hunt: The True Story of Alaska's Most Notorious Serial Killer, Robert Hansen
In the 1970s, a local baker harboured a dark secret that plunged Anchorage into a state of terror. Robert Hansen transformed the pristine Alaskan wilderness into his personal hunting ground. As the remains of women began to surface, the authorities assembled to track down this merciless murderer.

Good insights into some horrific people

I was starting to worry about myself, enjoying hearing these stories of monsters hiding in normal society, but am fairly happy that I was enjoying the background knowledge and how they were eventually caught, and not the grisly details of what they did.
On that, I find at times the crimes committed are divulged in a little too much detail, and dramatised, especially given most of these killers do not tell the true stories of what happened, so a lot of it must be extrapolated. This feels a little in bad taste, telling the story of how people met their ending, but I guess it isn't too gratuitous.
The books themselves are somewhat formulaic, starting with a dramatic telling of how one of the victims met their end, and then giving the killer's background and working through in a chronological order. However, that format is pretty effective so you can't begrudge Green that.
The 4 killers outlined in this omnibus are very different, from different places and times, but there is a certain similarity to some of the horrible upbringings they had which may have driven them to their crimes or their desperation.
i would have enjoyed a little more visibility of the police's attempts to solve murders/join them up, this is usually lefty until quite late, unless the killer was in fact questioned and released or was caught for a minor crime.

Great Cases

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to these stories where Ryan delves deep into each case with enough facts. Narration was decent too would listen to them again.
