Summary

The Royal Ranger is back, and the stakes are higher than ever in the world of Ranger's Apprentice!

Castle Araluen is well protected against attackers - but what if the enemy is already inside?

King Duncan and Princess Cassandra are trapped high in the south tower of Castle Araluen. In the north, Sir Horace and Ranger Commandant Gilan are besieged in an old hill fort as they wait for the Red Fox Clan's next attack. Ranger's apprentice Maddie must find the Heron brotherband and convince them to join her, so she can give her father the help he needs to break out from the hill fort and ride to confront the traitor.

Will they reach Castle Araluen in time? And when the battles have been fought and the dust has settled, who will rule the Kingdom of Araluen?

Great narrator and Story

Great Narrator and story, The Author is a favorite among fantasy books, and I highly recommend this series, and His series Brotherband!!!

Great story, shame about the narration.

Sadly this will be the last of the Ranger audiobooks I shall be purchasing. If you’ve listened to the earlier Rangers Apprentice audiobooks narrated by William Zappa you’ll understand the frustration over the change in narrator. I’m afraid Mr Keating just doesn’t do it for me with his style of reading. The, seemingly random, pauses in his narrative makes it feel like he’s reading the book for the first time as he’s recording it. A narrator can make a huge difference to how a book is received and, unfortunately, the difference here is negative for me.
The story was, as usual, well written and keeps up the pace nicely to the final showdown at Castle Araluen.

Bring back the other narrator!

We love the stories but have trouble with the narrator's phrasing and accents when reading the direct speech! please bring back the narrator from the previous series - we could visualise the characters with his voice, now we just cringe and laugh at some of them!
The stories are so well written and engaging, and we love listening along to the books. Sadly, this narrator ruins them! Sorry!

Good story wrong narrator

Pierce was an excellent narrator, this one is just not right for the read.
His voice sounds to factual and unnuanced.

Awful narration, good story.

I can’t get over the abysmal pronunciation of so many simple words- cloths sounding like clawths, for example. Nor the intonation stressed on incorrect syllables, the accent varying so many times even in one sentence. For me, although enjoying the series very much, I cannot get past the shockingly garbled reading or worse, the way the sentences are read in a way devoid of natural rhythm or meaning. I have the complete set up to this point but will have to go to kindle to finish the series.
