About this listen

The Red Fairy Book is a collection of traditional stories for children from England, Ireland, France, Germany, Norway, Russia, Rumania, and Finland.

Narrated by the wonderful James Smillie, The Red Fairy Book consists of 37 tales and is the second book in the series.

Andrew Lang was a Scottish poet, novelist, and literary critic. He initially edited the series and wrote prefaces for its entire run, while his wife, the translator and author Leonora Blanche Alleyne, known to friends and family as Nora, assumed editorial control of the series in the 1890s. She and other translators did a large portion of the translating and retelling of the actual stories, as acknowledged in the prefaces. Four of the volumes from 1908 to 1912 were published by Mrs. Lang.

interesting tales historically aimed at adults

brilliant original tales, however not recommended for young children or those more sensitive as i would out a PG to 12 rating on at least the latter stories in this audiobook recommend the adult carer to listen to it or read free version online of this book before buying for a child to listen to or for a person with advanced dementia or for a learning disabled person who may get upset and disturbed by some of these stories as some are quite detailed in the punishments and attacks on the victims in them and quite a few do not have a happy ending most who have known the disney animation way of making such stories less violent and detailed in that violence and always with a happy ending.
I did enjoy the majority the others were at least interesting as a view on the historical telling of stories whoch were not told to children but adults in the past which would explain the more violent happenings to the victims including women and children in the content.
