About this listen
"Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful one who taught by the pen, who taught man what he did not know."
The Qur'an, believed by Muslims to be the word of God, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago. It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature.
Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations. This new translation is written in a contemporary idiom that remains faithful to the original, making it easy to listen to while retaining its powers of eloquence. Archaisms and cryptic language are avoided and the Arabic meaning preserved by respecting the context of the discourse. The message of the Qur'an was directly addressed to all people regardless of class, gender, or age, and this translation is equally accessible to everyone.
About the series: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

excellent translation excellently recited
As a non-Arabic speaker I am dependent on translations, of which I have studied several. This translation by M.A.S. Abdel Haleem was already known to me as a book and is the one I've found most understandable and fluent to read in English. it is an added joy to listen to Ayman Haleem's reading of the text. He speaks in standard English-accented English but pronounces the Arabic names correctly, which is a great boon. His reading is ideally paced and clear without 'actorish' flourishes but not monotonous. Recommended for any newcomer to the Qur'an as well as those more familiar with it.

Brilliantly narrated
As a muslim, I had already read a couple of other translations of the Quran. I chose this audio version as I wanted to listen to the Quran on the go. I must congratulate the narrator for having done a brilliant job here. Each and every word is easily understandable. The narrator takes all the necessary pauses to give emphasis where needed, and offers amazing variation in tone so the listener can easily distinguish between the characters present in the many parables of the Quran. I highly recommend this audio version!! thankyou to the narrator, may God bless you!

Amazing
I love this translation. I really appreciate the detail provided and context of history given at the start. Not only was this interesting, but it helped me to understand the context of the Quran.
I found the English translation easy to understand and more simple than the archaic English versions I've read before.
I would recommend this translation to anyone new to Islam or anyone who wants to understand the religion better.

*Read*
I rate based on my understanding of the text, the translator's efforts, and not the text itself.
My first time reading the whole book. I find there are a lot of repetitions of the major stories. I think it is so any first time or long time reader decides to take a glance will be reminded of the important lessons from the book.
I didn't understand some parts of it because I don't have knowledge of the context of the revelation. Also, the stories are very succinct and require contextual knowledge to be able to fill out some of the subtle/subliminal messages.
I would recommend - as I think it was intended - to read the Qur'an along with ahdith and the tafseer. Subsequently, one should read it again and hope to independently understand the content. Definitely not a book to just read once and understand it all. Read, again and again. And may Hewho guides, guide whosoever sincerely reads this book to righteousness.

An amazing experience
The inimitable word of God!
An amazing experience for me. I speak Arabic so can read and understand the Qur'an in the original - well a large portion anyway. But English is my first language and this translation allowed me to experience the Qur'an in a new way.
The narrator was great. Very clear and crisp. And being an Arab was good too as he pronounced names, places and certain 'untranslatable' words very well.
