Summary

Music production can be an elusive art form for many, and the challenges that face someone who is new to this can easily create overwhelm and lead to complete paralysis. In my previous book, The Mental Game of Electronic Music Production, I covered music production from the way your creative brain works and how to get more focus, inspiration, and productivity out of it. From the amazing reviews I continue to get from this book, it seems to have connected with music producers in a pretty profound way.

Although I did get into the technical side of music production in my previous book, I didn't dive into a step-by-step process. In this audiobook, I wanted to do my very best to share how myself—and my students—have approached making release-quality songs consistently, even if they had never previously finished a song and don't have much experience using music software.

If you are an aspiring producer making electronic-based music, it can seem like an insurmountable task to get from where you are now to creating release-quality songs. My goal is to make you better at sharing your own unique voice. I made this to be relevant even if you change styles 10 times over the course of your music-making journey.

Einstein once said "Genius is making complex ideas simple, not making simple ideas complex". He also said “If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, you don't understand it yourself”. This has been my philosophy in all the training and coaching I do. I don't want to add any extra confusion to such a broad subject. I want this audiobook to inspire you in very actionable ways, so you can move toward making your best work as painlessly as possible.

This audiobook was written to give you the foundations and process of music production, so you can focus on being creative without running up against common roadblocks. If you always know where you are in the process, you'll almost never feel overwhelmed.

I've wanted to create this audiobook for a number of years, and I must admit that I almost didn't create this audiobook at all. Putting into words the monumental task of producing music you can be proud of is not an easy task. Even with 30 years of making music under my belt, there will always be new information, tools, and techniques that come along. This isn't by any means a definitive guide to everything you'll ever want to know about music making. That would be impossible.

I created this audiobook to offer a process that you can implement, regardless of changes in tools and technology. I want this audiobook to be as relevant in 25 years as when I wrote it. Although there will be some technical jargon, my goal is to break things down in simple English. I never liked user manuals much, and I don't want this book to read like one.

This should feel more like a friend having a normal conversation with you. I am not that different from you, and I wasn't born with any natural gift in music making. I just happen to have tried a lot of things, failed a lot, and, in the process, discovered what has worked well for me and those I have shared this with. I am here to teach you what I understand from personal experience. Nothing more.

If you're ready to finally finish professional sounding songs with confidence, let's get started!

Great general useful format - annoying random missed points

A good book to listen to and take notes from let down a little by lack of attention to detail and clunky missing areas all over the place. No huge big deal though.
