Summary

He jumped to his death in front of witnesses. Now his wife is charged with murder.

Five years ago, Erin Kennedy moved to New York following a family tragedy. She now lives happily with her detective husband in the scenic seaside town of Newport, Long Island. When Erin answers the door to Danny's police colleagues one morning, it's the start of an ordinary day. But behind her, Danny walks to the window of their fourth-floor apartment and jumps to his death.

Eighteen months later, Erin is in court, charged with her husband's murder. Over that year and a half, Erin has learned things about Danny she could never have imagined. She thought he was perfect. She thought their life was perfect.

But it was all built on the perfect lie.

misleading

The tag line on the book is misleading. she is not charged with his murder...

never disappoints me

Jo Spain as usual knows how to keep the whole story suspensful until the end when you get a shocking revelation of whom the culprit is. Lovely story although I thought certain passages were too long and could be avoided, thus 4 star instead of 5. Otherwise I'm a big fan of her stories.

A perfect book

Really enjoyed both the mystery tempo and intrigue of this book.
It is really well written with enough all the carachters well rounded.

Good story but very long winded

The story begins and ends with suspense but the bit in between is far too long. I found myself often just wanting to Google the ending because it was so drawn out. The three timelines get quite confusing especially the Harvard one as until later in the book, you can’t piece why it’s in there. Overall a good storyline but could have been at least 3 hours shorter.

Not my cup of tea

I found this book a little contrived and not really very believable that some of the events could actually happen

Really enjoyed the narrator

This was my first Jo Spain book. Story plot was quite good. I did guess the outcome/twist quite early on but it didn’t make the listen any less enjoyable! Will look up more books by the same author for sure.

Very misleading description

The ‘Now his wife is charged with HIS murder’ had me confused throughout. Very annoying as the story goes between Now and Then being ambiguous and due to the original byline you assume the wrong thing right to near the end. Did make sense towards the end but so confused with the THEN and the story line of Lorna and Alison but did keep me listening!
