Summary
How to hold it together, even when things are falling apart.
Laugh, cry and scream along the rollercoaster of family life as Rachaele Hambleton journeys through the parts nobody talks about; the 'wow' moments, triumphs, tears and tantrums. This book covers everything we don't teach our kids in school, understanding neurodiversity, having heartbreaking conversations and healing from being broken.
Rachaele's deeply personal story reveals the raw truths of parenting chaos, ever-changing family dynamics and the art of keeping it together against all odds. With unflinching honesty, and bags of heart and humour, this memoir shows real messy life and offers a lifeline for anyone struggling. Above all, it tells us we are not alone.
'In a world of social-media gloss, Hambleton [is] unusually frank about the mess of life' iNews
'Powerful and candid ... it will make you laugh and cry' Woman's Own

A must listen for any Mums
I could listen to Rachaele all day…this book has reminded me to take things more slowly with my children and to take the pressure off myself. I’ve learned lots about how I can better support my stepson.

Beautifully written and emotionally told
I absolutely loved this audiobook, Rachaele is completely honest about the challenges and messy parts of life that is so validating. It is incredibly emotional throughout and she is amazing to have not given in to the horrific trolling the family have received but continues to keep focus on causes bigger than her. She is an incredible and inspirational woman that makes you reflect on parts of our society that we would rather pretend were not there.

Just Lush
Absolutely loved it from start to finish! I think listening to Rachaele reading the book made it so powerful and relatable. She’s funny and her good heart shone through. I got it to listen to on my commutes to work in the car but ended up listening to it for 3 hours straight on 2 consecutive days because I was so engrossed. Just wanted to give her a huge hug ❤️

Heartwarming, relatable and honest
I cried, laugh and connected with this in so many ways, life is messy. The parts with Lula felt like a lightbulb moment. But mostly it just felt lovely to read about a family that felt so real, life is messy family is messy and this shows the highs and the lows of that. Well done

Amazing!
Thank you Rachaele for sharing your life in such a beautiful way. Thank you for reminding me the hard parts are temporary. I loved listening to you and your story. I laughed, cried and was grateful for the reminder that just because people can be sh*t, it's not my fault.

Rachel is just real and honest and a good, good person
I was hoping for sage words or advice. I was disappointed at first, as I’d forgotten why I’d chosen this autobiographical book and it didn’t seem to be what I’d hoped. But I kept going and I wasn’t disappointed. For perspective, for faith in the goodness of most people, for a simple story of triumph over messy adversity, it hit its mark. I’ll be looking out for more about Patchwork - what a brilliant woman.
