Interesting Subject Poorly Executed
Had this been a YouTube video, or a themed collection of YouTube videos,it would have been fine.
As a book,though, it is very poorly written. Clumsily structured with atrocious attention to basic grammatical rules. I Patrick's laconic and idiosyncratic accent on video, this is fine - it fits his vibe and speech pattern. transcribed for somebody else to read, however, it is hard to listen to, especially when the material itself is messily curated and oddly laid out.

Great book. Astoundingly bad performance
It’s such a shame and an irony that this fascinating book, aimed at people who love language, is read here by someone who has no understanding of that subject and utterly butchers it. How did this man get the job? How did this man get any job that involves reading? He sounds like a mixture of the dog from the Disney film ‘Up’, and Gok Wan. How was he allowed to get away with pronouncing the word ‘a’ like ‘at’, and ‘the’ like ‘thee’ before consonants? Even the word ‘another’ he pronounces ‘ay-nother’! It is maddening. He emphasises all the wrong parts words in most sentences. He is just terrible.
I wish I had just bought a hard copy of the book to read it myself. I highly recommend doing that. The content is great. I HIGHLY recommend not downloading this butchering of it.

Irritating voice humour and not the best content
No way as good as the Etymylogican - prefer this author by far. Patrick Foole seemed to be making up too much and could not stand the way the readers voice kept going up far to frequently for natural language. Annoying humour.
