About this listen
A warm welcome awaits...
The charming new arrival from the number one best-selling author of The Canal Boat Cafe.
Robin Brennan has come home to Campion Bay. Now her parents have retired, she's set to become the new landlady of The Campion Bay Guesthouse.
Bookings have been as thin as the hand towels, and it doesn't take long for Robin to realise that the place needs a serious makeover. Perhaps throwing herself into the task will help to heal her sadness at the tragic end to her dreams in London. As she gives the guesthouse a new lease of life, Robin encounters old friends and new, including old flame Tim, who'd clearly like to reboot their romance. But what about Will, the new arrival at No. 4, who's rocked up with the cutest dog ever? Caught up in a flurry of full-English breakfasts and cream teas, Robin's never sure what, or who, the next check-in will bring....

A good life after death
Ever since listening to mothers hour in the 50’s with my mother and watching The Darling Buds... in the TV series, I’ve been a sucker for these gentle, twee country/ seaside stories. This is a good one with a well thought out story line that doesn’t get boring or too sappy. Well recommended for a few hours of happy reading . Great narration as well !!

Great book - lovely story
Loved the story but was put off a wee bit by the narration - it was cut, so that the natural pause between sentences was missing most of the time. Felt a bit rushed. Lovely story though. Love this author.

Good story line
A little bit far fetched in place but hey it’s a romance and not many write them better!

A slow-starter for me, glad I persevered.
I really enjoyed this book once I got into it. I found the narration very slow at the beginning and was so close to stopping and refunding it. I'm really pleased I persevered. I felt that the narrator, Emma Tate, read the story way too slowly at the start which made me question whether the writing was bad or the narration was too obvious and intentional.
This seemed to find a natural speed and flow as the book progressed and I ended up enjoying Emma's performance immensely and found Cressida McLaughlin's story to be very sweet and romantic.
I do recommend this book. I found the description of the beach rather relaxing and became quite pensive while imagining it.

Like wrapping your head in cotton wool
I was looking for a book which I could listen to at night and easily keep track of the story. Well, I definitely got that. It doesn't matter if you fall asleep or go into semi-consciousness. You can be assured that the next time you listen, you would have missed nothing. It's a bit like EastEnders - you can stop watching for a year (or 5) and have no difficulty getting back into it. It was written in 2017, so the author doesn't even have the stress of the pandemic to blame for producing such a dull, dull listening experience.
On the plus side, it has helped me to get to sleep on occasions. It's a bit like one of those mindfulness stories that meanders around, distracting the mind from the day's stresses until your body submits to sleep.
I feel that, in the spirit of light and positivity, I should say that it's clear the author had a good time inventing the "characters" and picturing them by the seaside living their lives. I hope it was good therapy for the author.

A descriptive writing masterclass but that's it!
A slow, steady story. Nothing spectacular. Makes you want to live by the sea, but was underwhelmed unfortunately.

Bland formulaic
I stopped listening after an hour but decided to give it another chance. I actually finished listening but just couldn't get interested. I just found the whole book flat. not a particularly useful review but there we are.
