Summary

The Next Port is the true story of how a midlife crisis led to an around the world sailing adventure.

Come aboard with Heyward and Charlotte as they transform a worn-out hull into a first-class blue water cruiser. Then take off and cross oceans with them, feeling their desperation when equipment failures force ingenious workarounds in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Share the highs of navigating the crystal waters of French Polynesia and the lows of crossing pirate-infested waters in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden. Travel ashore with them to places not covered in travel brochures, meet natives untouched by the modern world, and navigate the political waters of Guantanamo Bay. Armchair adventurers, experienced sailors, and anyone with a zest for life will find inspiration and humor traveling from one exotic place to the next, excited about The Next Port.

Grab your atlas as you explore far flung places like:

  • Guantanamo Bay
  • Alta de Chao, 800 miles up the Amazon River
  • Galapagos Islands
  • Tuamotu Islands
  • Cook Islands
  • Vanuatu
  • New Caledonia
  • Great Barrier Reef
  • Aboriginal Arnhem Land

Karen’s sailing around the world

It’s an interesting insight into world cruising but the attitude towards locals is obnoxious, I feel sorry for other Americans that have to live down the reputation created by these people who seem so ignorant of other people’s culture, they surrounded themselves with fellow American Yachtsmen as
complained their way around the world 😖
They seem know the price of everything and the value of nothing, delighting in getting something cheap or free and seething when they have to pay more than they believe they should in poor countries.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
