About this listen

1960s Brighton, England... Their special day… but for reporter Colin Crampton which of three mothers is in the frame for murder?

A dead body on a stormy night.

The cops who dismiss a murder.

The reporter who tracks a killer.

There are just four days to Mother's Day and crime reporter Colin Crampton is under pressure to find a front-page story to fit the theme. Then Colin and his feisty girlfriend Shirley Goldsmith stumble across a body late at night on a lonely country road. Colin scents a story when the cops dismiss the idea of murder.

Colin and Shirley flirt with danger as they investigate the killing. They take on a crazy hippie commune and a chemistry teacher with an unusual late-night hobby. And that's before they tangle with the mothers…

“Plenty of twists and turns, laughs, danger and charm–and a solution I never saw coming.”–The Bookworm Chronicles

"An excellent modern mystery that’s more than worth your time."–In Search of the Classic Mystery Novel

Thoroughly entertaining mystery writing

Peter Bartram is a great builder of his world. Colin Crampton and his girlfriend are likeable characters, but with enough quirks to makes them completely believable. Crampton is a tenacious and intelligent investigator who is determined to get to the bottom of a suspicious hit and run. I will be reading more of this series for sure!
