About this listen

This audiobook focuses on the countless theories that have been put forward with regard to the identity of the notorious Victorian serial killer and offers an extensive section presenting all the known facts in the case. It includes 30 essays by the most famous, often controversial Ripperologists putting forward their own theories.

It remains one of the few audiobooks to offer a series of alternative solutions to Jack the Ripper's identity and the truth behind the Whitechapel murders. But how many new theories and identities can researchers come up with?

A must for all Ripperologists

I found this book to be a realistic account of various accounts of the unsolved events of the East End of London in the 1880s.
It covers all the usual “suspects” and introduces a number of names that I had not heard of.
It is clear and concise and is as factual as can be, without obviously naming Jack the Ripper.
Most enjoyable and gets a big 5⭐️ rating from me.

Fascinating Insights. Thoroughly Enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this. I didn't love it but found each account fascinating. I read reviews complaining about the repetition but that's to be expected in a series of accounts about, theoretically, the same thing.

If you enjoy real crime you won't be disappointed.

Indepth study

My prime suspect is Cohen aka Kaminski. confused with Kosminski. A lot of theoris
es have a name then making evidence or more likely coincidence match.

I have read a dozen books. None have ever suggested more than one killer also.

But for me Kaminski

Comprehensive

In 1988 (the centenary of the crimes) I worked on a market stall, just outside the door where the Goulston Street Graffito was discovered -- and so began my interest in the case. I'm no 'Ripperologist' however; it's just a passing fascination that I revisit occasionally, which is what I did when I discovered this in an Audible sale.

Overall a fascinating collection of ideas, well presented and worth a listen.

Although, pay attention carefully, as you need to be aware of the subtle differences between speculation, circumstantial evidence and what we actually know -- for example, the speculation around Mary Kelly's locked door makes an assumption that the lock was not self-latching.

Very interesting collection

An interesting way of portraying the Jack the Ripper story. The basic facts first then several theories by various Ripper Ologists.
Some were known to me some were not. Being able to recognise which facts were ignored and which were emphasised to prove different theories was also useful .

Very intriguing

This is an excellent book for people interested in Jack the Ripper. A forensic look at the victims, details of the police investigations and a selection of the most popular of the suspects. Every person and their dog has an idea but no one will ever know. I read one author has this image of that legend that when you die you get to ask a question and Ripperologists asking for Jack the Ripper to come forward and to a person will then say "who the hell are you?" that it wont be anyone they had considered. Over the years the case has been romanticized and people want it to be someone exciting. I like that this book is about the whole story and not plugging one theory. The narration is excellent.

Alternative opinions on infamous crimes.

Really good performance from the narrator, switching voices with ease and not sounding too ridiculous. The essays themselves are a mixed bag, some interesting, some make a good point, some obnoxious. If anything this book is a window into the Ripperology community with the investigators or historians serving as the main characters, some of them coming across almost comically arrogant in their convictions. Many myths are quashed, yet some of the writers are reluctant to drop some ideas, but then will alter facts to shoe horn their suspects into the Ripper role. Enjoyable enough.

Amazing experience

Loved every minute of this very well read book. The level of detail and variety of ripper theories was excellent. Agreed with the main theory and suspect that the author put forward which finally made sense of some strange discrepancies that always bothered me about the ripper story.
