Not what I hoped for

I was hoping to come across some new information or view points in this book, but regretfully didn't. However, I was reminded of a couple of ideas and that could be helpful. I admire Vic's story in having the courage to turn his life around from 'rags to riches' & we can all learn from this. My engagement /enjoyment of this book was impeded by personally finding the narrator's voice highly irritating and 'polyanna' sounding, which for me conjured a superficial quality disconnected from life, but that's just my personal view and other people may find him and the book uplifting.
