Magic, magic and more magic!

This book is based in Martha Carr and Michael Anderle’s Terranavis Universe and is the second series released in that universe – the first is the Maggie Parker series. If you haven’t read/listened this series yet, I recommend you do so as it provides plenty of background information, plus it’s a great series! The other 2 series (so far) in the universe is The Adventures of Finnegan Dragonbender (a 6'5" dwarf and his faithful friend Penny, a Faery Dragon), and the Lone Valkyrie.

Now onto the review…..

The book centres on 3 sisters who have known about magic all of their lives – Laura, Nickie and Emily.

At Emily’s graduation, their father gives them each a ring which have been passed down from generation to generation. The rings make their magic stronger. Their father also tells them that they are the keepers of a prison for a very dangerous creature called a Gorafrex. This creature stowed away on the ship (earth) before it left their home galaxy. The girl’s ancestors trapped the Gorafrex in a prison, but………… Laura unknowingly released it earlier on that day……… They have to try and figure out how their rings work and capture and imprison the Gorafrex before it goes on a witch killing spree.

The characters are all very likeable, each sister is different in their own unique way but they work together to try and capture the Gorafrex, learning about their stronger powers thanks to their rings as they go.

This is a fun book, sisters who are there for each other and magic, lots of magic, oh and mysterious creatures!

I really like the narrator, she does a very good job narrating and kept me engaged throughout.

Interesting, but...

This is quite obviously a young person's book. The language, slang, and interactions I found (as a mature person) tedious, but can see how they would appeal to the under 30s. The plot, at least up to half-way through, looked interesting, but I wasn't enthused enough to follow through with it. The story is free of foul language (a strong, point in it favour), but the only sex scene I encountered came close to being graphic. I also found that the narrator's very strong US accent less than attractive for an International English speaker. I'll be returning it.
