Summary

A charming and uplifting story, perfect for fans of A Man Called Ove or Jonas Jonasson.

Biddy Weir is a quirky girl.

Abandoned by her mother as a baby, and with a father who's not quite equipped for the challenges of modern parenting, Biddy lives in her own little world, happy to pass her time painting by the sea and watching the birds go by. That is, until she meets Alison Flemming.

Because there are a few things about Biddy that aren't normal, you see. And Alison isn't afraid to point them out to the world.

All of a sudden, Biddy's quiet life is thrown into turmoil. If only there was someone to convince her that, actually, everyone's a little bit weird....

A story of abuse and survival, of falling down and of starting again, and of one woman's battle to learn to love herself for who she is, The Lonely Life of Biddy Weir is Lesley Allen's startlingly honest debut novel.

A very good book

I loved it all how people can be so cruel and don’t realise the damage they do

Such a poignant story

This book is so uplifting. The description of feeling were so good you could almost feel what poor Biddy was living with, and the story so good I didn't want it to finish. Looked for other books by the author who I had never read before but unfortunately this is the only one on Audible but I will certainly looking out for her. An poignant story told brilliant by an excellent story teller

Great read, difficult to put down. Highly recommen

Beautiful piece of work, sensitively told story of the reality of bullying and how it can have a profound impact for years after. Great narration too.

A truly heartbreakingly beautiful novel.

I'll admit, I had to stop part way through as it was a pretty difficult listen (the narrator expertly navigated all the voices from all the characters).
But I simply couldn't leave it for long. I had to find out Biddy's progression.

Wow.

Having listened to hundreds of books, this one will stay with me for a while. What a heartfelt, heartbreaking and beautifully executed story. I felt so many emotions listening to this, and to someone who has experienced long term bullying, this might be a difficult listen. The writing and performance is exceptional. I will definitely be looking out for more by this author.

I didn't want it to end

A wonderful tale of a girl picked on, and given a hellish life. It's sad, yet uplifting. Beautiful.
