About this listen
Present day New York: At the Metropolitan Museum, four horsemen dressed as Knights Templar storm the gala opening of an exhibition of Vatican treasures and, in a brutal and bloody attack, steal an arcane medieval decoder.
For FBI agent Sean Reilly and archaeologist Tess Chaykin, this is just the start of a deadly game of cat and mouse as they race across three continents in search of the ruthless killers - and a centuries-old mystery.

A disappointment
Where does The Last Templar rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Very near the bottom
Has The Last Templar put you off other books in this genre?
No, I'm tenacious and I know there are better.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
If there was one It came near the beginning.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The developing plot was directed towards an emotional non-climax eliciting a groan from this listener
Any additional comments?
At the start of the story, I could believe in the characters. They appeared to have integrity and backbone. Then, sadly, the plot became awash with sentiment, cuddles and emotional twaddle. It should and could have been an exciting gallop through accepted religious certainties, confounding dogma and the accepted norms. But it ended in the main characters in each others arms having compromised their principles. Very disappointing though, of course, Jeff Harding was a good as ever.

Gripping but confusing.
If you could sum up The Last Templar in three words, what would they be?
Gripping, confusing, enjoyable.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I don't have a favourite.
Which character – as performed by Jeff Harding – was your favourite?
That's already been asked.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I couldn't
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book but am still confused by so much of this book including the subplots and the historical elements. I wish I could listen to the unabridged book, but it isn't on here.

Drivel
I had read/ listened to Raymond Khoury’s work before so had reasonable expectations of this story. However, the reading is very poor. The range of voices is very limited and Tess’ voice just sounded whiney and annoying.
The story is about a robbery, a chase to recover the stolen objects then another chase to find hidden treasure. Two of the protagonists are archaeologists, yet they smash ancient artefacts with abandon to get at the good stuff. The third is an FBI agent with religious convictions, this latter is important since the treasure is an ancient manuscript that would have serious implications for the Catholic faithful. The church employs a murderous Monsignor to recover the manuscript (codex), whose additional task is to remove all traces of its existence and the existence of those that have seen it or heard of it.
If it sounds implausible then don’t bother to listen to it. I wish that I hadn’t!
