About this listen

Set ten years after the events in Prince of the Blood, this book is a remarkable adventure of mystery and magic.

In Amos Trask's ship, Prince Nicholas and Squire Harry set sail for a friendly visit to Uncle Martin in Crydee. But while the two are guests in Crydee, disaster strikes.

Nicholas, third son of Prince Arutha, is a gifted youngster, but sheltered by life at his father’s court in Krondor. To learn more of the world outside the palace walls, Nicholas and his squire, Harry, set sail for pastoral Crydee, where Arutha grew up.

Shortly after their arrival, Crydee is brutally attacked. The castle is reduced to ruins, the townspeople slaughtered and two young noblewomen – friends of Nicholas – are abducted.

As Nicholas ventures further from the familiar landmarks of his home in pursuit of the invaders, he learns that there is more at stake than the fate of his friends, more even than fate of the Kingdom of the Isles, for behind the murderous pirates stands a force that threatens the entire world of Midkemia, and only he is destined to confront this terrifying threat.

One of the better stories in the riftwar cycle

Great adventure of one of the lesser known characters. The group had different characters that filled different roles and was well balanced. The death of some main characters made it a story to remember.

Yet another excellent book by Raymond E Feist.

From Magician right through to the end of the serpentwar saga these books are great. I've started to revisit them because there are others in the series now since I originally read them and if like to have the story fresh in my mind.

Simply excellent and heartily recommended but start with Magician!

another cracking adventure

it's not really high fantasy, but there is rollicking adventure, moments of pathos and humour. after feeling like his first book was a bit staccato when on audible, this one rolls along. Peter Joyce has an excellent range which makes the different characters really zing with personality

Swashbuckling

It’s not as good as the original three but better than the previous one: Prince of Blood. I found myself tuned in and enjoying the first third then the last third. I felt in dragged on a bit in the middle yet raced through some key parts in the final number of chapters. Still a good yarn, nonetheless.
