Summary
Would you have the courage to leave behind everything you know to marry a complete stranger? Two spirited sisters are about to test the limits of their strength.
It's 1864, and civil war is devastating the country. When a speaker at the church shows sisters Eliza and Maggie a copy of Matrimonial News and tells them of the opportunities for women as brides in the west, Eliza sees a glimmer of hope in a world of widows and spinsters. But she’s skeptical. Maggie is excited, and with their mother enthusiastic about a brighter future for her daughters, the sisters set off to the west to start a new life.
As the war rages on, some men have escaped the brutality, intent on making their fortunes in the gold mines out west. It’s a lonely life, and Marshall’s not the only one who craves a real home and a loving wife to return to each night. Placing an ad for a mail order bride seems like the perfect solution: Any woman willing to travel thousands of miles to marry a stranger is sure to have the adventurous spirit he longs for. And he’s not wrong.
Two years later, peace has finally arrived, but San Francisco is still in a state of turmoil. As police chief Matt Weston fights to restore order, his new bride, Eliza, is the ray of light amidst his struggles. While he works, Eliza hosts eager new brides from the east, but their love stories are not as straightforward as her own. Rose has fallen for a man, but not the right one, and Harriet already has a love in New York. Can Eliza help these young brides find the happiness she has?

Sweet Historical Romance
The Journey, part one
I loved the slow, Cowboy sounding, deep voice of the narrator! He reminds me a bit of John Wayne in the drawl and manner. It was very enjoyable to listen to!
The story was very interesting and I liked being shown both sisters at once. We got to know each of their inner voices in this first story.
The Journey, part two
The retelling of the earthquakes from both San Francisco's past and the book's present time was filled with heartache, fear, and hope! I loved the change in Luke! My heart broke for the loss of their friend and the tragedies Maggie suffered from.
The narrator was still wonderful!!
The Goodreads and Amazon descriptions of this book sounds more like book one. Amazon adds two sentences at the end that actualky speak of book two.
The Journey, part three
While I still love this narrator, book three has several narration errors. Repeated words, extra sounds recorded, but the worst of these were when the characters were unidentifiable because the voices didn't change.
I loved this story and the crazy Aunt added a bit of laughter! The meeting of the couples to get them to speak the truth was my favorite part!
