About this listen

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of The Hunt by Oscar de Muriel, a Christmas tale from the world of Frey and McGray, read by Andy Secombe.

Christmas, 1888. After a thoroughly trying time in Edinburgh, Inspector Ian Frey looks forward to a Christmas break at his family's country estate back in England. But the welcome respite of home cooking, hunting trips and brandy by the fire is ruined by the arrival of an unwelcome guest....

Features an exclusive extract from A Fever of the Blood - the brilliant new Case for Frey and McGray, which publishes in February 2016.

This was freebie

A short introduction to a book The narrator was great, very clear and loud enough and didn't go too fast.I'm not too sure if I would want to listen to any more.

Beware, not a full book: just a 30 min except.

Don't be fooled, this is just a taster of the second Frey and MCGray book, A Fever of The Blood. On the plus side, this short extract is superbly voiced by Andy Secombe, and the nascent plot seems exciting. But I could have gathered all that by listening to Audible's free 3 minute sample, without purchasing this.
Sadly, you can't even enjoy this excerpt as a stand-alone item, as the excerpt stops on a (minor) cliffhanger! Sneaky, eh?!
It only cost about 50 pence, so I can't manage to feel more than a trifle miffed. But if I had used a whole credit on it, I might be seriously peeved!!
If you are new to this series, I suggest you start with The Strings of Murder which is the first book, before moving on to A Fever of The Blood, which is the second book in the series. The complete books are good stuff, well worth a listen, but really, don't bother buying this short snippet.

Not for vegetarians or animal lovers

Chasing infirm animals on a hunt, glorying in the slaughter of the innocent beasts....only a short introduction to a book but after 10 minutes I found myself wishing the characters could be hunted down and shot.

Not for me.

Warning for animal lovers

Horrible story about a loathsome group of characters needlessly slaughtering about 20 deer. Added nothing to the story other than highlighting their snooty awfulness. This was freebie but regret to say I've downloaded a book in the series. Unlikely I'll read & wont be any more. Do not read if you have any respect for animals & environment as this author clearly has none
