Summary

Ishmael Jones investigates a haunted house...but is haunted by his own past in the latest of this quirky paranormal mystery series.

“That house is a bad place. Bad things happen there...."

Set high on top of Widows Hill, Harrow House has remained empty for years. Now, on behalf of an anonymous prospective buyer, Ishmael and Penny are spending a night there in order to investigate the rumors of strange lights, mysterious voices, and unexplained disappearances and establish whether the house is really haunted.

What really happened at Harrow House all those years ago? Joined by a celebrity psychic, a professional ghost hunter, a local historian, and a newspaper reporter, it becomes clear that each member of "Team Ghost" has his or her own pet theory as to the cause of the alleged haunting. But when one of the group suddenly drops dead with no obvious cause, Ishmael realizes that if he can find out how and why the victim died, he will have the key to solving the mystery.

Strange but enjoyable

Not my usual type of book but enjoyable, some parts were funny and the narrator ( who plays all the parts) was entertaining.

Worth listening to....

Entertaining tale. Narration is much improved since last book, not so jarring and robotic. Lots of "he said, she said, he said, she said" but was easy to follow. Build-up was interesting but the ending rather disappointing. This could have been a good horror story but ultimately, turned out to be a whodunnit. Regardless of the points mentioned, it's still worth a read.

Love this series

I thoroughly enjoyed this as I have all the books in the Ishmael Jones series. Gildart Jackson has a glorious voice and is ideally suited to these audiobooks. I love the amusement in his voice which is perfect for Ishmael and Penny. I listened to this outing in one go today and wish there was another ready in my audio library, these novels are right amongst the top of my favourite audiobooks and I have an audio library of almost two and a half thousands of mainly novels. The story of The House on Widows Hill is definitely one of my favourites in this series and I enjoyed the mix of ghost hunting/seance and alien presence. Roll on the next episode.

I love this series- but

I have given five stars to all the books in this series, but I was disappointed by this one.

I love Ishmael and Penny and all the cases they get involved in and usually the characters are both entertaining and interesting. Gildart Jackson is a superb narrator. It was with this in mind that I continued listening.

This one was constant shouting by characters l thought were weak and didn't gel with, and a fair amount of repetition of dialogue. Not much happens until the end. The whodunnit was predictable, it could have only been one person, but the reason the house was haunted was very good, interesting and a surprise.

I do however look forward to the next outing of Ishmael and Penny.

Not my sort of book!

I found it very bland and boring! The story was ok but getting to the end was boring! I only listened cause I kept thinking, somethings gonna happen...some twist in the tail...nope...just boring 😞 sorry if you fancied the description.

super different listen!

The House on Widow Hill indifferent, engaging, eady to listen especially with the chosen Narrator, and the story is entertaining .What more could you want? I liked the heroes and the miscellaneous cast of possible rogues, and when the twist was revealed , although broadcast quite early on, it still cane as a surprise. fun easy listening and if you like SF, Fantasy, Thriller, and Mystery your wish is the books command!!

Dull book

My second book in the series and I chose one that was later in the series so that it might be more developed. Although so many reviews love the narrator I find it almost comic as the accents and portrayal are terrible in some cases.i am sure no one speaks like some of these characters. The story isn't much better, it drags on and you might as well just listen to the last 90 mins.To be honest if they all died it wouldn't matter as none of the characters are believable or have any depth.
