About this listen

The chilling and captivating novel from the NUMBER ONE bestselling author of The Lost Notebook

When Edie’s mother-in-law, Anna DeLuca, dies, she is relieved.

Edie blames Anna for the accident that destroyed her family. So, when her will lures Edie to Sicily and the long-abandoned Villa della Madonna del Mare, she sees through Anna’s games.

Suspecting Anna is meddling from beyond the grave to try to reunite her and her ex-husband Joe, Edie is determined to leave Italy as soon as possible. But before she can, the villa starts to shed its mysterious secrets.

Who are the girls beside Anna in her childhood photos, and why has one of them been scratched out? Why does someone, or something, want them to leave the past untouched? The villa is a place where old ghosts feel at home, but does their legacy need to be laid to rest before Edie and Joe can move on…

Bestselling author Louise Douglas returns with a captivating, chilling and unforgettable tale of betrayal, jealousy and the mysteries hidden in every family history.

couldn't stop listening

I really loved this story and was utterly gripped. Beautiful setting and characters one could easily relate to. Douglas's characters are very real - flawed but lhighly likeable human beings who care about others and making a difference to the planet. The plot unfurls effortlessly and I was intrigued by the contrast of menace and beauty all in one place. Great plot twist at the end.

dim witted

couldn't get to grips with this character, she seemed very slow witted and liked to snoop around in other peoples belongings. not quite sure 10 Year hateful separation can be overcome so quickly

Hated the narration on this. She sounded so wet abs desperate. I finished the book but was really put off by the voice of the narrator.

A nice story

The storyline is . . . Nice .
An easy listen and plenty to keep you wondering what will happen I just felt a bit meh at the end. I liked the story line and wanted to see the main character through and liked her, I just felt like the end was a bit rushed and I think the ending could have been a real shocker if it had gone a different way. But a nice read for driving and listening to, an in between book to clear your mind before a next big read perhaps!

Spellbinding throughout!

Writing so well I was transported to Sicily seeing the vibrancy of the place and the fragrance of the many flowers and lemons
The journey Edie and Joe had to take and the ghosts of the past weaving in and out of the story made you see the villa and those who had been before
Enthralling I did not want it to end !

Gentle narration, very easy to enjoy

A superb story that resonates with beautiful descriptions of Sicily and its landscapes, people, flowers and food. A journey that it was a total pleasure to accompany Erie and Jo through, as they come to terms with loss, recovery, ghastly intimidation and horrible treatment - so much to overcome. The sunshine shines through and good can hopefully prevail. I loved this deeply layered tale and that almost too exciting! Highly recommended.
