Summary

Sounding and Choc Lit present the audiobook edition of The House That Alice Built.

Alice Dorothy Matthews is sensible. Whilst her best friend Kathy is living it up in Portugal and her insufferable ex Adam is travelling the world, Alice is working hard to pay for the beloved London house she has put her heart and soul into renovating. But then a postcard from Buenos Aires turns Alice’s life upside down. One very unsensible decision later and she is in Cascais, Portugal, and so begins her lesson in 'going with the flow'. But perhaps the most important part of the lesson for Alice is that you don’t always need a house to be at home.

Wonderful story set in the sunshine in Portugal

Great story, loved the whole theme. It inspired many memories for me - and all set in the Portuguese sunshine.

The strength of friendship

I loved this book because for me it celebrated the one thing we all need in life - best friends, who love us, want the best for us and aren’t afraid to speak the truth out of love.
It was also a great escape from a cold and wet winter in the UK to a sunny, picturesque Portugal.
Hope there’s a sequel...

Perfect summer read

A charming story evoking memories of Portugal. Perfect to listen to on holiday. Believable characters with an uncluttered plot that moves at an appropriate pace.
The narration is good, not an entirely convincing Australian accent but not distracting and enough to identify the character.
I look forward to more by the author.

Inoffensive story with sprinkles

If you're on holiday or about to go to sleep, and you need something "nice" to listen to, then this could be the book for you. You can pretty much listen and pause whenever you like. If you can't remember a bit, don't worry - it probably won't matter too much. It did get a bit sickly sweet in places, but it was bearable. Set in beautiful Portugal, it follows the adventures of Alice, a modern day Shirley Valentine. And there you have it in a nutshell. Enjoy!
