About this listen

From the bestselling author of The House Guest comes a chilling story set deep in the woods...

With his marriage over and his career in freefall, journalist Tom decides to reconnect with his fourteen-year-old daughter, Frankie. Desperate to spend precious time together now that they live an ocean apart, he brings her to Hollow Falls, a cabin resort deep in the woods of Maine.

From the outset there’s something a little eerie about the place—strange whispers in the trees, windchimes echoing through the forest—but when Tom meets true-crime podcasters David and Connie, he receives a chilling warning. Hollow Falls has a gruesome history: twenty years ago this week, a double slaying shut down the resort. The crime was never solved, and now the woods are overrun with murder-obsessed tourists looking to mark the grim anniversary.

It’s clear that there’s something deeply disturbing going on at Hollow Falls. And as Tom’s dream trip turns into a nightmare, he and Frankie are faced with a choice: uncover the truth, or get out while they still can.

Good story, narration distracting.

The story was engaging and moved at a good pace. The only negative is the narrator is very distracting.

Dreadful narration

I don’t like to be unkind but that was so deadpan it took all the joy out of the book. Sorry.

Another Mark Edwards classic

Mark Edwards is brilliant. All of the books I have read of his keep you engaged and although all have a similar psychological thriller base, they all keep you fully engaged.

In this book, Tom a divorcee who lives in England, travels to America to visit his 14 year old daughter Frankie.

Sadly not having done a google search first, they end up going to a campsite where a murder has taken place previously and a load of ‘dark tourists’ go to get their kicks…

The rest I will leave.

Edwards has a superb way of subtly building characters on the way. You genuinely care what happens or might happen to them.

I would definitely recommend.

Great book awful narration

I really struggled to stick with this book, it’s a great bit of writing but the narrator sounds like a robot and a poor impression of scooby doo! Could refund so stuck it out, luckily the story is worth it not I recommend taking it not listening

not up to the usual standard

I normally love Mark Edwards, there's usually a twist that I don't try to guess and hence don't see coming. the twist in this one was pretty anti-climactic. normally it makes you want to re-listen knowing what you know but it didn't really matter here.
The narrator made it even worse. His 40 something female bookshop owner had a more feminine voice than the 15 year old girl! And for a girl who lived in England for 11 years and then Albany for 4, she sure had a thick Noo Yoik accent. totally took me out of the story.

Ignore narration comments! He’s really good!🤔👏🏽👏🏽💯

Im halfway through and was just reading the reviews. I can’t believe how many people have said the narration is bad!! At first i wasn’t too sure, but now halfway through he’s GREAT! It’s probably the hardest job in the world and he has LOTS of characters to do and to give them all different voices! so i give him 10/10!! I can’t even read 1 voice naturally never mind 10+!! Loving everything about the book and the narration! My first mark edwards book im sure, and i have now purchased 4 of his books because of this book! IGNORE THE NEGATIVE NARRATION COMMENTS!💯💯💯💯 i will look for more read by Guy Mott DEFINITELY ! 10/10 Narrators are given such a hard time, and yes some are truly awful and shouldn’t be doing it, but so many negative comments are not justified and this is 1 of the one’s ☹️ Well done GUY! You done SO well with SOOO many different characters to read and make all of them different… without making a mistake or getting confused with which character you’re reading, and you didn’t! Well done!!! ♥️👏🏽👏🏽 Thank you audible for another great book!!! Couldn’t put it down, i HAD to know what happened next!!🤗😊xxx

Story rolls along nicely

An enjoyable page-turner listen, Mr Edwards keeps the listener engaged and the story romps along in an interesting setting.
The narration reminded me of an annoying English lesson where the teacher is reading the text way too slow for the story. After thinking of returning the book, instead I listened at 1.7x speed and it was just about bearable.

Narration is awful

I had this book on my wish list for ages and preordered it as I love Mark Edward's books, I was so looking forward to it, but this one is totally ruined by the narrator. I'm not even sure I can finish it. I feel like I am being lectured not read a story, it's so difficult to connect with and like the characters when the narrator gives them such ridiculous and whiney voices!! I would love to know if the author has any input in the choice of narrator. if not you have done him a serious injustice. if this was my first experience of a Mark Edward's book, I would never listen to another. Fortunately I discovered him long before this horrid version

Amazon as always.

Another brilliant book from Mark. Always a twist that you don’t see coming. Always leaves you on the edge of your seat as it’s takes you through the twists and turns. Can’t wait for the next one.
