You’d be better off reading Wikipedia
I would be stunned if this was written by an Irish or Northern Irish person.
Even if you take the book as a spark notes version of the history of Ireland, the framing and details of events from 1912 onwards are completely all over the place; including insinuating the massacre at Croke Park was undertaken by the IRA. The troubles in particularly are glossed over, which is impossible to do if you are writing a book on the history of Ireland.
