Summary

Nettie Bontrager has spent the last 10 years helping her mammi tend to people in need. She feels valued by the Amish community and has gained the respect of an Englisch doctor who praises her skill and knowledge of herbal remedies. But Nettie’s younger sister often complains about the time Nettie spends working with her herbs while ignoring many household chores. Still, Nettie has much to be grateful for. She especially looks forward to going for drives with her beau, a handsome Amish man she hopes one day to marry.

Ike Miller is courting Nettie Bontrager and is ready to propose marriage. But when he overhears her younger sister making disparaging comments about Nettie, he fears Nettie doesn’t have enough time for both him and her healing practice. He would never ask her to turn her back on those seeking aid, so he ends their courtship. But he loves Nettie and soon regrets his decision. When he sees her in the company of the Englisch doctor, he wonders if she now has feelings for him. Is Ike too late to win her back?
