Would you consider the audio edition of The Heist to be better than the print version?

Yes, I am enjoying been read to. I may well have passed this over all together if I'd have been going to read it. I have read all of Janet Evanovitch's work and am tired of the format now, so I . Then I thought maybe Lee Goldberg will inject some new exciting content.

Review:
It took me a bit of time to get into the story. The first few chapters were a week-long struggle. But once past Mount Athos it got quicker. More interesting... As I was reading the book I had this image of Kate Beckett of the Castle TV show as our indomitable FBI Agent Kate O'Hare in my head. The images and scenes just seemed to click and fit together themselves. Or maybe I am just reading/watching too many crime fictions. Which is a really sad state of affairs from a self-professed urban fantasy geek, so why am I reading another crime fiction? I think I can attribute that, this time around, as a testament to the authors' story telling quality to lure me into a genre other than my own. Another evidence that this author dou is as good as Nick Fox at sweet-talking people, is the fact that although the story itself is a bit formulaic which had been played a few times too many around the block, but they still managed to pull it off and sell it as well! You have to give the authors kudos for pulling that kind of stunt! However the story ended with a few loose ends untied. I presume that these will be answered in the next book, which is a bit annoying but at the same time I am also looking forward to reading the next book, not only to get more Nick and Kate action but to see how these loose ends played out.

Not Stephanie Plum...

What did you like most about The Heist?

...but once I got over this and through the first couple of scene-setting chapters, this settled into an enjoyable adventure. The characters were quirky and likeable and there were enough twists to hold interest to the end even though there was little doubt as what the resolution would be. Hopefully the start of a series.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Scott Brick has read hundreds of audiobooks, though mainly in the US. His performance is faultless, although I was initially thrown having just assumed Lorelei King would be reading, as with all the other Evanovich"s.

Just fun.

There are a lot of bad things I could say about this book. The characters are a bit one dimensional, the plot goes deus ex all over the place, the romance is a bit weak and it's ridiculously over the top HOWEVER none of that matters because this book is just fun. Big, silly, ridiculous fun. I just enjoyed listening to this and going along for a mindless enjoyable ride.

I do dislike Scott Brick as a narrator though. He just speaks so slowly and in a dreary monotone. I normally listen at 1x or 1.05x but with this I listened at 1.35x and the book sounded normal. I think the faster playback might have even made the emotionless Brick convey a bit of character.

Took a little getting into!

I pushed this book aside on the first occasion I tried to read it as it seemed so daft - Disappointed because I enjoy the Stephanie Plum books,
I thought I would give it a second go and I am really glad I did - it was well put together, and very amusing in places. The relationship between the FBI agent and the fraudster had a lot of tricky moments, and it had a decent plot and a good level of intrigue; I reckon this is likely to be the start of a new series, and I look forward to trying another.

Anyway - go for it, it is a jolly good fun read.

Entertaining Read

What made the experience of listening to The Heist the most enjoyable?

The concept of the characters is very good and the scenarios of the heists are really creative.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nicolas Fox, he is a very likeable character and the con's he puts together are very inventive. I also love Kate's Dad the way he can get anyone in any part of the world to storm into countries with him. Reminds me of the old Arnie / Stallone characters.

Any additional comments?

I definitely missed Lorelei King narrating the book. She has done an amazing job with the Stephanie Plum novels and gives a distinct voice to every character. It just brings the whole story to life. Whereas Scott Brick is OK but he is one of those narrators which gives a slight lilt to his voice for different characters. All in all it was good but just fell short of being excellent.

The Heist audiobook

Really good book, very enjoyable,and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. Characters were well written as is normal with Janet Evanovich books, but very different style to Plum novels

The Start of Promising New Series

Would you consider the audio edition of The Heist to be better than the print version?

Hard question to answer as I chose to buy the audio edition. Certainly it was a convenient format and suited my mood.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Heist?

I don't want to give away spoilers but Kate's shopping experiences were great fun and I could relate to her feelings. Aside that as I said spoilers! but there were plenty of memorable moments.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

As said above the shopping trip, Nick's adventures in the courthouse loos and the excitng climax.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I think if I had read it I would have finished in one or two sittings. I listen to my audiobooks on the go and so am quite used to them taking days or weeks to complete.

Felt this was a fun listen and one I'd highly recommend

Love at first Heist

If you could sum up The Heist in three words, what would they be?

beautiful sexual tension

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nick and Kate, due to the way that they interact with each other, the tension between them is unreal

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

the way that he captured the feeling of all the characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

the moment between the two leads at the end of the book, had me in stitches

a great read, well worth your time, the story is fun athe characters are great and the chemistry between the leads is brilliant
