Summary

'SUPERB' WILL DEAN
'Highly entertaining' THE TIMES
'Subtle, compelling storytelling at its elegant best' DAILY MAIL

Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in the small village of Three Pines in Quebec. Someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. When he finally answers the call, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

That's only the first in a sequence of strange events that begin THE GREY WOLF. At first they seem small - a missing coat, a note for Gamache reading "this might interest you", a puzzling scrap of paper with a mysterious list - but then a murder. All propel Chief Inspector Gamache and his team toward a terrible realization. Something much more sinister than any one murder or any one case is fast approaching. A threat unlike anything they've seen before.

The Grey Wolf - really good

Another great installment of Chief Inspector Gamach and his friends and family. A very fast moving story with lots of action. This time we are faced eco terrorism. Will Gamache save the day? There is a lot to do with family in this book, and sticking together .

The best yet

I always enjoy reading Louise Penny’s CI Gamache novels. It seems the books get better and better. The way she writes enables me to picture the characters, the streets of Montreal and the small hidden village of Three Pines and its inhabitants. Grey Wolf is the best yet with the plot covering the mafia, closed religious orders, historic difficult relationships and who can be trusted against a background of environmental issues. The suspense builds frighteningly from the beginning and I found myself holding my breath several times.

Read all of the Three Pines novels, you won’t regret it!

Another excellent novel featuring Armand Gamache and Three Pines.
Ms Penny brings us just the hero we need in troubled times.

Great characters

I really enjoyed hearing the characters come to life again but as with the last book the story has become quite convoluted and less enjoyable.

Brilliant

A lot of twists and turns, brilliantly read, as always, by the best in the business.

I was Gobsmacked

I especially like the fact that all my favourite people are still a part of this story and are used in many ways. Ruth, a babysitter? I also like how the story grows in a way that makes sense. However, it is sometimes hard to remember who is the good person and who is the bad.
The ending was superb. I shall be looking for the next book.

Confusing

I suppose it would be called fast moving but I found this book very confusing and had to reread a number of chapters. The overall plot was good but extremely complicated.
