About this listen

A chilling DRAGON TATTOO thriller

Change is coming to Sweden's far north: its untapped natural resources are sparking a gold rush with the criminal underworld leading the charge. But it's not the prospect of riches that brings Lisbeth Salander to the small town of Gasskas. She has been named guardian to her niece Svala, whose mother has disappeared. Two things soon become clear: Svala is a remarkably gifted teenager - and she's being watched.

Mikael Blomkvist is also heading north. He has seen better days. Millennium magazine is in its final print issue, and relations with his daughter are strained. Worse still, there are troubling rumours surrounding the man she's about to marry. When the truth behind the whispers explodes into violence, Salander emerges as Blomkvist's last hope.

A pulse-pounding thriller, The Girl in the Eagle's Talons sees Salander and Blomkvist navigating a world of conspiracy and betrayal, old enemies and new friends, snow-bound wilderness and the global corporations that threaten to tear it apart.

Critic reviews

Lisbeth Salander is back - and maybe better than ever. Karin Smirnoff's take is both respectful of the past and ready for the future - altogether remarkable. (Lee Child)

Fresh, fearless, faithful and original. Karin Smirnoff takes on a heady challenge and makes a stylish, exciting and truly worthy statement. One of the great crime series of our time could not be in safer, more capable hands. I loved it. (Chris Whitaker)

An absolute incident-packed thrill-ride from start to finish. Karin has taken on the legacy of a legend and done the series justice. (Jo Spain)

Hard work to follow the story

I struggled to keep all the characters clear as the initial plots and subplots unfolded. it felt like a lot more gratuitous death and violence than the previous millennium stories. For me the narrator made it more confusing and about 4hrs in I just came to a grinding halt. I returned the book

A good film script, but...

It's a fine story though depth of plot has been lost in chasing gratuitous descriptions of violence. My sense was that the copyright owners were chasing more lucrative film rights than wanting to add to the literary legacy of Larsson.

While the narration is excellent, as someone who is not Scandinavian, I found it a little hard to distinguish between some of the characters, especially when their names were quite similar.

Disappointing

Narration is poor - too quiet and although I appreciate a female narrating, and the accent, it's drab and pretty one dimensional and quiet. The story had promise, but wasn't a good addition to the series. I had high hopes and stuck with it, but I was left feeling disappointed.

Disappointing

Loss of the franchise story line. It never went anywhere substantial. Well written and read.

not as good as the previous books

Maybe the story gets better, I've not managed to get past the first few chapters and am struggling to keep going.
Afraid the narration detracts from the book enormously.

That's a no from me

I loved the original books to the point where I read them and then got them on audible.
Two hours in and I'm bored. I'm not even gonna finish this book, which is sad because I have all of them

Disappointed ☹️

A hacker who doesn't hack, a journalist who doesn't investigate. A huge disappointment for fans.

Excellent writing, not Suitable for the Series

I almost never write reviews, just give stars. But this time I’m so intrigued to write one. The author is clearly very talented, knowledgeable, critical and sensitive. Beautiful and creative writing style. HOWEVER, the publisher couldn’t have done better to choose this author to kill their very successful book series of “Millennium”. The tone is so different than the first two authors in the series. The second was surprisingly successful, which I did not expect. This made me angrier, as I could see that the miracle could happen. An author dies, and another one keeps the series beautifully alive with almost the same tone. But now, we have this brilliant authorship of a novel that does not fit one bit. A very very strange and unnecessary failure. All respect to the author, but I advise readers/listeners to consider Book 6 the end of this very entertaining series.

Difficult to follow at times

I love the Millennium books and did enjoy this one but found bits of the story confusing. Not sure what the end result was for the daughter or Henry.

Hard to follow

Don’t know if it’s the narrator or the book itself but I struggled to know what was happening as there seemed no obvious cuts between scenes so I thought the characters were one place then suddenly they were somewhere else or someone else! No change in narration for different voices. Didn’t like how much salander suddenly was emotional with an internal voice? Very weird. Story didn’t really get going until around 5 hours in and then by 6 was boring again. Very disappointing.
