About this listen
A USA Today Bestseller!
A world at war. One woman will risk everything. Another will uncover her story.
1940: When the island of Guernsey is invaded by the Nazis, two sisters are determined to rebel in any way they can. But when forced to take in a German soldier, they are shocked to find a familiar face on their doorstep – a childhood friend who has now become their enemy.
2016: Two generations later, Lucy returns to Guernsey after the death of a distant cousin. As she prepares the old family house for sale, Lucy discovers a box of handwritten notes, one word standing out: resistance. Lucy’s search for the author will uncover the story of a forgotten sister who vanished from the island one night, never to be seen again.
A timeless story of love and bravery. Fans of Fiona Valpy and Kate Quinn will be absolutely gripped from the very first page.

Captivating and Heartbreaking
With every Lorna Cook book comes a history session and story which is educational and heartwarming. This book is no exception, and a truly fascinating story that will captivate and educate about the channel islands occupation.
With each book I find a new place I must visit and stories which I will never forget.
A fabulous and gripping read, as with all her books. Highly recommended ❤️😊

Lorna Cook is my new author 😁
Lorna’s books always have a look at the past but also the ‘current’ day.
There are always wee twists in the story
Her books are really nice to hear & look forward to more books from Lorna

Loved it
At first I wasn’t sure that I was going to enjoy this book as much as other books by the author but I was wrong and it pulled me in.
Really enjoyed it, just a shame that the lady reading it read it fast as though she’d just remembered she had left a pie in the oven!

Great story, poor narration
Absolutely loved this story, twists and turns and lots of interesting history woven into the story! Anther good one by this Author. Unfortunately the narrator could have been a lot better. There was no differentiation between the characters voices and so at times it was a bit confusing as to who was talking. The story would have come alive so much more had the narration been better, however the story was brilliant and I can’t wait to read/listen to another from this author. This is the 3rd one of hers I’ve read now and they have all been excellent.

The Girl From the Island
Thoroughly enjoyed this story.
The narrative was clear although could have used a slightly different tone between the characters. The story had an open ending which I wondered if the author would continue.
