George Orwell
About this listen
This audiobook includes unabridged recordings of all George Orwell's greatest non-fiction: three full-length books, a collection of his most well-renowned essays and the complete collection of his poetry.
Down and Out in Paris and London - Orwell recounts his London tramping exploits in Paris and London with a cast of colourful characters.
The Road to Wigan Pier - vivid descriptions of social injustice, cramped slum housing, dangerous mining conditions, squalor, hunger and growing unemployment create a searing account of working-class life in the bleak industrial heartlands of Yorkshire and Lancashire in the 1930s.
Homage to Catalonia - having enlisted to fight for an anti-Stalinist communist party in Spain, Orwell is soon forced to flee the country and here discusses the destructive nature of Soviet communism.
Essays - a wide-ranging selection of Orwell's essays, through which he ranges from reflections on his boyhood schooling and the profession of writing to his views on the Spanish Civil War and British imperialism.
Poetry - the complete collection of Orwell's published poetry.

I am so pleased to have this collection
Brilliantly narration plus excellent selection of insightful non fiction texts = SUPERB AND STIMULATING AUDIBLE EXPERIENCE
Orwell continues to be as relevant today as he has ever been and these texts not only shed light on the world in which we currently live but provide supplementary insight into his major works 1984 and Animal Farm. Highly recommended.

At last - Orwell’s best essays well read
Jeremy Northam’s readings of Down and Out in Paris and London, Road to Wigan Pier and Homage to Catalonia are difficult to surpass - and freely available on YouTube. But the narrators of this collection get very close. This 33 hour selection is Orwell’s best work - minus the poems - in my view. I don’t mind at all that Animal Farm and 1984 aren’t in there. After Penguin’s botched audiobook version of their Essays collection from earlier in 2021, this comes as very welcome.
