About this listen

"You were adopted." These three simple words, in a letter accompanying her parents' will, tear Nisha's carefully ordered world apart. Raised in England by her caring but emotionally reserved parents, Nisha has never been one to take risks. Now, with the scrawled address of an Indian convent, she begins a search for the mother and family she never knew and the awakening of long forgotten childhood memories. The secrets, culture, and people that Nisha discover will change her life forever. And, as her eyes are opened to a side of herself she didn't know existed, Nisha realizes that she must also seek answers to the hardest question of all-why?

Weaving together the stories of Nisha, Shilpa, and Devi, The Forgotten Daughter explores powerfully and poignantly the emotional themes of motherhood, loss, and identity - ultimately asking the question, what would you do out of love for your children?

Enjoyable

This was a very enjoyable story. Unfortunately the thing that spoilt it for me was the narrator. I just didn’t like her voice.

The author writes so poetically

This lady is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. The way she tells her story weaving in smells, sounds and sights. She writes so beautifully, that you can just close your eyes and picture it
Particularly enjoyed the recipe book, made my mouth water.

Such brilliant descriptive writing

I loved the way this book was written. It wasn’t so thought provoking. The description of the life of a woman’s love for her husband and family was beautiful. Then the story of the daughters was gripping. All I can say is it is the very best book I have listened to in a very long time.

Beautiful and heartbreaking

I loved this book, such beautiful characters in such awful but realistic situations. I loved that we followed the journey of three women on their voyage of life, decisions and discovery. I will be reading more by Renita.

Great

I really enjoyed this book, not quite as gripping as Renita’s other books I’ve listened to (A daughter’s secret is my fave, reminiscent of Santa Montefiore’s writing I thought)but nevertheless a great listen

Wasn’t sure at first but had listened to the book the neighbours and thought I would give it a try. Absolutely brilliant and loved the way the story wove together. Nearly cried at the end on the tram to work. So beautiful!
