Summary

The most incredible thing happened in the most unlikely place. Simon Radcliffe was nothing special. Approaching 40 in a dull middle management job, divorced, depressed, and gaining a beer gut, he was convinced his best days were behind him. Then one day his best days were right in front of him again. By a freak accident of physics he became the first man to travel in time 20 years, back to the autumn of 2002, and he came face to face with himself in his first year at Derby University, age 19.

Can he get back to his own time? Why are bored looking assassins trying to kill him? How will he feel seeing his dead former friend alive and well? How will he literally live with himself?

The First Man to Time Travel is the debut sci-fi comedy novel from Alex Leam.

New look on time travel

Not your usual time travel novel and I really enjoyed Simon’s travel to meet his younger self. But that’s where it get complicated and it just gets more and more interesting as the story twists and turns. Keeps you guessing g to the end. Loved it.

Great time travel action thriller

I was surprised how much I enjoyed reading this from first time author Alex Leam, in fact it left me wanting more and I cannot wait for the sequel.

This is the story about the first man who time travelled and the various agencies who subsequently try to either assist him, or execute him.

It contains lot of action sequences, mainly round the assassination attempts,

It also contains various Easter eggs harking back to other sci-fi and films. It also has various entertaining moments too.

The author reads the audio book, and does so in a lovely way. Each character has a separate voice and who reads it with a great style.

This book is well worth having a listen too.

Thoroughly enjoyable listen!

The first of hopefully MANY audiobooks from Leam. His narrative is easy to follow and is an absolute must for anyone about to embark on their very own midlife crisis. Enjoy the nostalgia of the Nokia 3310, and the delightful plot twists that hit you from nowhere. A joyful listen, Leam has the voice of a honey soaked 90s radio dj and does not disappoint with his characterisations. Get it, get it now

Great listen

I randomly listened to a sample of this, thought nothing of it, didn't open Audible for a month, reopened it last night when I couldn't sleep, the sample was still on my recently played, went ahead and purchased it and listened to the whole thing in pretty much one go.

Narrated by the writer, did a great job on both accounts. Love a time travel story and this stood up there with the best of em. Will be coming back for the second one :)

If you love Douglas Adams, early 00’s nostalgia & hate the gentrification of your local town centre, you’ll love this!

From start to finish, (which I did in a weekend) it’s an utterly charming listen. Engaging, funny and enthralling throughout.

The dynamics between Si & Simon are just great. It totally has a Freaky Friday and Hitch Hikers vide which has you from the off. The twists are absolutely that & it has depth to be a series the author Alex will provide I hope, sooner rather than later.

This is a film or a Netflix show in the making, mark my words.

I couldn’t recommend it more!

Very disappointing time travel yarn

Messy plot which felt like the author was just throwing a bunch of jumbled time travel plot ideas at the wall hoping something would stick. The only reason I persisted through to the end was in the hope of some resolution to the muddled story. How wrong I was!
