About this listen

Sam Vines is a man on the run. Yesterday he was a duke, a chief of police, and the ambassador to the mysterious, fat-rich country of Uberwald. Now he has nothing but his native wit and the gloomy trousers of Uncle Vanya (don't ask). It's snowing. It's freezing. And if he can't make it through the forest to civilization, there's going to be a terrible war. But there are monsters on his trail. They're bright. They're fast. They're werewolves. And they're catching up. Sam Vines is out of time, out of luck, and already out of breath.

The Fifth Elephant is one more installment of Terry Pratchett's Discworld cycle, this time starring dwarfs, diplomacy, intrigue - and big lumps of fat.

"[Terry Pratchett]'s genius is for pushing logic to such limits that it reels with the shock." ( Daily Telegraph)

Fabulous abridged story

Tony really brings the characters to life. Loved the story and the way Terry wrote

Great story and narration, poor audio quality

Audio was very hissy and quiet but improved slightly half way through. Still and enjoyable story and great narration by Tony Robinson.

Pratchett

Pratchett at his best as always, & sets the scene for the future enjoyment of Discworld

Not Stephen Briggs

Despite what the title picture says, it is read by Tony Robinson which is disappointing. Pratchett's story is as amazing as ever, but let down by Robinson's performance.

delightful

I love this version of Terry Prachetts the fifth elephant. It is my favourite book of the Ankh-Morpk series and Tony Tobinson as always lightens up the characters.

Poor sound quality

It's a good Discworld story, and the narration is fine, but the audio quality is very poor and the volumes are inconsistent from chapter to chapter.

Great story, shame about the reader.

I have really enjoyed the guards series read by Nigel Planer up until this book, however this one unfortunately was spoiled by the mumbling of Tony Robinson. I find it almost impossible to distinguish the voices of each character and the volume and clarity of Tony Robinson's speach made me have to go back and repeat some sections to pick out what was being said.

I see that the previous books are now only available narrated by Tony Robinson. Avoid, find the Nigel Planer version even if it means going outside the audible app.

Let down by inconsistent narration and duration

Narrative volume changes. Lack of urgency in certain scenes. Audio is poorly cut and edited.
