Summary

A personal celebration of female friendships - the good, the bad and the complicated - by lifestyle content creator Lily Pebbles.

If there's one piece of invaluable advice for women and girls of all ages, it is that there is nothing more important than creating and maintaining strong, positive and happy friendships with other women. In a culture that largely pits women against each other, I want to celebrate female friendships...all strings attached!

If my 1998 diary is anything to go by, female friendships are incredibly complex and emotional, but they're the mini love stories that make us who we are. For many women, friends are our partners in crime through life; they are the ones who move us into new homes, out of bad relationships, through births and illnesses.

In The F Word I've set out to explore and celebrate the essence of female friendship at different life stages and in its many wild and wonderful forms.

Lovely reflection on the complexity of friendships

I am a fan of Lily's other work online and enjoyed her performance of this book very much, it feels like a friend speaking to you throughout! The book is like a rollerdex of friends(hips), flipping through each 'type' one by one. The author' is insightful and doesn't shy away from offering nuanced advice. Lily knows she is lucky to have had such good experiences with friendships, but it's clear that she also nurtures them with care, generosity, and self-critical reflection. Especially valuable for younger readers, but still enjoyable and enlightening for more mature ones.

A nice book, easy to listen to

I bought this book as a follower of Lily’s YouTube channel. It didn’t seem like my thing, but I thought I would give it a go. It’s a nice book, nothing profound, but an easy listen.

Feeling a bit disappointed

I really like Lily Pebbles and often watch her You Tube videos however I’ve been left feeling a bit meh! About this book.

I think it might be a nice book for a young girl going through different emotions in high school and questioning her place but seems a bit pointless for an adult.

Very average

Disappointed to say that this book is not what I expected. It was announced as a professional exploration and an intellectual book - I was impressed as it’s so easy for youtubers to go down the generic ‘My Life’ story for their books. However, this book did not seem professional nor was it terribly engaging. Very much like a teenager trying to give other teens advice in making friends. Quite patronising at times and much more like something that could be featured in a column in a teen mag. The younger audience’s Lily has would probably be interested in this, maybe that’s what she wanted. But for anyone older than 23, I predict this book will not impress you. Such a shame.

Super basic book, maybe good for teenagers

Basic book, written poorly and quite cringy at times. Many "absolute", matter-of-fact statements where it's just the writer's opinion. Maybe good for young teenagers but quite simple and patronising overall, wouldn't recommend to an adult women audience.
