About this listen
From James Dashner, the author of the New York Times best-selling Maze Runner series, comes an edge-of-your seat adventure. The Eye of Minds is the first book in The Mortality Doctrine, a series set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams...and your worst nightmares.
To catch a hacker, you need a hacker. For Michael and the other gamers, the VirtNet can make your wildest fantasies become real. And the more hacking skills you have, the more fun. Who wants to play by the rules anyway? But some rules were made for a reason.
One gamer has been taking people hostage inside the VirtNet with horrific consequences. The government needs Michael to track down the rogue gamer, but the risk is enormous, and the line between game and reality could be blurred forever....

"In typical Dashner style, this is quick and involving, with the main frustration being the wait time until the next book." ( Booklist)
"Dashner does not disappoint." (Stephen King, The School Librarian)

Eye of minds.
The story synopsis has already been covered in the Audible introduction so I won't elaborate.
The idea behind this story is a very interesting one and the writing simple and easy to follow, with the text well read by the narrator. It is exciting in parts but, after a while, seemed to be lacking in imagination with the trials on the main protagonist's journey becoming limited to simplistic slog-it-out scenes or fairy tale settings which felt too unsophisticated for the overall concept. It would have been an excellent short story but failed to convince as a full length book. It would also probably do better as a film where visuals would flesh out the characters as well as providing a depth of strangeness and confusion.
However, I listened to the not too surprising conclusion. It became my book to fall asleep to at the end of the day.

Enjoyable
The audio reading i thought was good, got Steven fry (harry potter standard) but over easy lessening.
Story was interesting, gets better towards the end as i had no idea that the story would end the way it did, so was good in that respects.
But for me, i did not find it gripping all the way though, it was not one of those stories i lesson to were i am left wondering what will happen next, excited to hear. more.

Entertaining and paced well
An entertaining, sci fi write up that hits the mark well. I enjoyed the narrator, with good voice acting. Didn't guess the ending, very well written. Now on to the next audiobook....

Not as good as The Maze Runner
Bit disappointed as I loved the Maze runner series. This is quite predictable and basically been done before. It's like Harry, Ron and Hermione stuck in a computer world so essentially quite matrix and Shadow of the Minotaur by Gibbons with s but of Dean Koontz demon seed mashed in. There were good bits but I doubt I'll read the sequel.

A bit too simplistic
Great idea for a story but it was poorly researched and I feel the writing was a bit lazy.
