Summary

“I can’t juggle starships. I make the ones who can.”

The battle with the Iron Legion has left The Last Horizon battered and broken, drifting in space. Varic needs an exceptional engineer to fix his ship, and there’s only one person for the job: Mell, the master Aether technician.

But first, they have to break her out of prison.

Mell has been captured by the Advocates, a group of superpowered vigilantes who dominate their corner of the galaxy. They are led by Starhammer, an invincible champion with a personal obsession with Mell.

The Last Horizon may be crewed by the greatest heroes in the galaxy, but even they have to be careful with Starhammer. Every time he survives a battle, he grows stronger.

In another life, Varic saw the end of that road. If he lets Starhammer become too powerful, the galaxy is doomed.

The Engineer is Book Two in a planned six-book series.

A lot of fun

Pleasently surprised again by Will. The story is very casual and easy to follow filled with action and jokes. Would recommend!

Dome it again, another great installment.

Not much to say the dude can write, the other dude slays at narration, both came together to slay it.

super fun read/listen

The only slight negative thing i have is the Superman powers (starhammer) can be a bit boring. But I think Will handled it very good

What's this

In Omega's words, boring. I feel like I should give every book series one chance to release a bad book, like I allowed Cradle its Skysworn, but this is proving difficult.

The setbacks are contrived and cringe, and almost nothing is happening. This isn't to say that the underlying story isn't good, but that the presentation is just not engaging. I'd love me some suspense, feeling and action. But the characters are either talking about not doing things, or doing something monumentally stupid. Can't spoil, but if you've read it then you know what I'm talking about.

I'm not done with the book yet, and I'm not sure I'll finish it. But if the ending redeems it, it would simply become "okay". There's so much potential with the setting. But the teasing of "maybe something worthwhile will happen" is just not great.

Please don't rush these things Will. You've got a gem in the rough and we shouldn't have to get into your head to enjoy the plot. I will revise my comment if I complete the book and change my mind, but I stand by what I've already said. Beautiful things deep down, but an oil spill on the surface. The tone is good. The humour is good. The self reflection is good. The conflict isn't convincing.
