Summary
A Grey Knights Novel
Two aspirants are recruited into the Grey Knights, and must hone their psychic talents if they are to join the hallowed and mysterious ranks of the Space Marine daemon hunters.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
It's a deep exploration of the Grey Knights and the events surrounding the First Armageddon War... including an appearance by the fearsome Angron, daemon primarch of the World Eaters.
THE STORY
The Grey Knights are all that stands between humanity and the ravages of Chaos. Since their secretive beginnings during the Horus Heresy, these legendary Space Marine daemon hunters have journeyed into the dark realms of the warp – and beyond – in pursuit of their supernatural enemies. Through an intensive regime of psychic training, new recruits are brought to the clandestine fortress of Titan to join the hallowed and vaunted ranks of the 666th Chapter.
More than ever, these legendary battle-brothers must be vigilant and ever ready to defend the Imperium – for the forces of Chaos are never truly defeated, and Armageddon beckons.
Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Narrated by Christopher Kent. Running time 12 hours, 28 minutes (approx).

The Grey Knights even have to chill out sometimes
This was a great read, well performed and structured . Nothing ground breaking but the scale of ranks and power levels are well done when the fighting happens and when it doesn't the right level of drama is enacted. No good guys here only grey (pardon the pun).

Gray kings have it rough
One of my personal favorites. this book made me understand and apriciate those dudes from Titan. and like wolf's even more. First part of the book was kinda mid but following half telling the story of Months of shame is god tier.

Great audio treatment for an old fave
The Emperor's Gift was first published by Black LIbrary in 2012. This Grey Knights romp is an old favourite of mine, and I was nervous to see it appear in audiobook with a narrator I didn't initially recognise - given the recent less-than-stellar performance of some new Black Library narrators. At any rate, I needn't have worried. Christopher Kent's delivery of every space marine line in this audiobook is as marvellously deep, rich and throaty as anyone could wish. In fact, so impressed/relieved was I that in the first few minutes, I might have jumped out of my seat and actually shouted 'Holy sh*t that's a proper &%&^ing space marine voice!' (which earned me some funny looks as I was sitting in traffic on the M4 at the time).
The story itself is as dark, amoral and well told as you'd expect from Aaron Dembski-Bowden, with his trademark quality characterization. Its certainly got nothing to do with the blurb from Black LIbrary ("Two aspirants are recruited into the Grey Knights, and must hone their psychic talents if they are to join the hallowed and mysterious ranks of the Space Marine daemon hunters") This is pure nonsense. I really wonder sometimes if the person who writes Black LIbrary blurbs ever actually reads the books themselves.
The plot has held up well in the last decade and it dovetails with events in the lore and other books, including one of the interminable wars for Armegeddon, the recent Angrom novel, and even the Ravenor books. The only reason this isn't a 5/5 for story is that I feel that ADB does his best work when working with the truly dark side of grimdark and I wouldn't quite put this up there with the Black Legion novels that (for me) are his best work.

The pov via hyperion
Always been a huge grey knight fan and this being my first novel to read/listen too offered some great insight into the lives of those charged with the duty of protecting the material realm with no knowledge of their existence or praise of their deeds. Hyperion is a fantastic character both in game and lore and having a biography from his perspective is more than just intriguing

Cracker! get it read but at parts surreal
Dear Audible BL Community
This was a cracker! liked it, a good story, rounded violence, however the middle part has an unbelievable action scene with the wolf king and it just kind of gets ridiculous after that
Check out my other reviews to see do you like the same choices as me. In summary I have an addiction for Eisenhorn, Ravenor, Fabius BIle, NIghtlords and such like books, I have a loathing for BL ripping us off with filler chaff and bolter porn
Thank you
Ben

Great book, even if the Grey Knights do get mugged off
I had heard rave reviews about this book and I even managed to get a copy of the print version but 6 months later I haven’t gotten around to reading it so I got the audio. It’s a great book as I’m a grey knights fanatic.
The books is essentially 2 stories - the war on Armageddon and the aftermath. The book proves once again that the inquisition is basically based on ‘that order that started WW11’ using incredibly inhumane methods to meet and end that, can be avoided and handled without the loss of billions of lives.
Anyway, love the grey knights but here they smash demons half the book then get made to look like absolute mugs by the grey wolves in the second half….. so much so that you wonder why they were ever created if there are better incorruptible forces out there… still that aside it’s a great book albeit more favourable to the Wolves in character building and leading to other stories than Grey knights.
