excellent fun except for editing

the performances as good as one would expect, deliciously hammy especially from Price. only criticism is that often several poems stories bunged into one chapter, and the readers often don't announce title of the piece which makes it difficult to navigate. Audible should do this better.

Classic literature by classic characters, but....

Would you listen to The Edgar Allan Poe Audio Collection again? Why?

Yes

What did you like best about this story?

Some of Poe's finest.

Any additional comments?

As with quite a few audio books I've listened to now the chapters of the audiobook represent downloaded chunks of data and not chapters in a book sense. It can be infuriatingly difficult to find the start of the desired story or poem until you've listened a few times RW and FW a few times. Some other kind reviewers, with more patience than I, have detailed the poems/stories and their start times on other previous reviews.....

The Master Of The Macabre

Anybody wanting to know where to start with Edgar Allan Poe,should look no further then this superb recording. All the classic tales and poems are here and they are read by two of of the "Golden Age Of Hollywoods" greatest orators,Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone. If I had one minor complaint,It would be the lack of title headings and poor chaptering.

Amazing performances but atrocious formatting.

These performances (and I chose that word wisely) from Vincent Price and Basil Rathbone are absolutely incredible. They are obviously vintage and you can hear the acoustics and occassional background noise, but this all adds to the intensity and atmosphere created by both of these great actors.

I could listen to this again and again if it wasn't for one thing; the chaptering / formatting makes this impossible to pickup what you're listening to and where it starts/ends. It's not even that the end of an Audible chapter marks the end of a story, as sometimes you're 30 seconds into the next chapter before a tale ends. This is really inexcusable as is the fact there are no titles to the chapter or the stories themselves.

In summary a brilliant collection of classic tales, read/performed fantastically, but sadly cobbled together to make accessing it really difficult.

simply stunning, read by the best

Awesome and intimate, Price and Rathbone at their best. Audible need to title the stories properly though. it's hard to pick out a particular storey.

Weird

It was ok. I am not a huge fan of poems in general and I think that is what disappointed me here. Some of the stories are pretty good but I did not click with his style. The narrators were pretty unremarkable as well. Not my favourite.

only for the bizarre

if you don't like putting a black cat into your wall and then being caught at it then these tales are not for you. rathbone and price do poe full justice.

Legendary literature narrated by legendary actors.

Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. Vincent Price and Basil Rathbones narration is sublime! Could not have picked two better actors for this.

I do agree with other reviews that the layout and formatting could’ve been tidied up and it was annoying that there are no titles.

I have included a track list incase anyone would like to know the title.

2. Alone
3. The City in the Sea
4. Berenice
5. The Fall of The House of Usher
