About this listen

He’s inherited the title of rake. She hides behind her independence.... Fate accepts the challenge.

Grace Beaumont has seen what love can do to a woman. Her mother sacrificed her life to produce the coveted son and heir. A devastated father and newborn brother force her to take on the role of Lady Boldon at the age of 15. But Grace finds solace in the freedom and power of her new status.

Christopher Roker made a name for himself in the military. The rigor and pragmatism of the army suits him. When a tragic accident heaves Kit into a role he never wanted or expected, his world collides with another type of duty. Returning to England and his newfound responsibilities, the Wicked Earls’ Club becomes a refuge from the glitter and malice of London society but cannot ease his emptiness.

Needing an escape from his late brother’s memory and reputation, Kit visits the family estate for the summer. Lady Grace, a beauty visiting from a neighboring estate, becomes a welcome distraction. When the chance to return to the military becomes a valid possibility, the earl finds himself wavering between his old life and the lure of an exceptional - and unwilling - woman.

Heartwarming

but not twee. No villains, histrionics or sex by numbers thank goodness. Narrator needs to work on his female voices.

Very Good!

A sweet and charming Regency romance. There were a few poignant moments that tugged at my heartstrings.
Although billed as a novella it felt like a full length novel as the story was very well developed and the characters were fully fledged. I listened to this book in one sitting and I enjoyed it immensely. I look forward to more by the author and more of the series.
The narration was excellent. I would definitely listen to more books performed by the narrator.

What an emotional rollercoaster

After losing her mother during the birth of her younger brother, young Grace Beaumont has made the decision to never fall in love and get married.

However, while attending her close cousin and best friends wedding she meets handsome Christopher Roker, who just so happens to be the twin brother of the groom. After a fun dance and a short conversation, Chris becomes someone with whom she starts thinking of.

After a horrid accident, Christopher and Grace find themselves meeting again at his family home. Being the polite host, Christopher send most of his time with Grace, her brother and her father.

Feelings are soon thrown into the mix and things start to heat up between the two.

I loved this novel, I cried when her mother died and during the end when Grace was confronted with the horror of the memories of her mothers death. I was however pleased that everything worked out in the end. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series.
