Enjoyed story but not a fan of the reader. Not great with male voices.

Let down by the narration
Although this was a good book it was ruined by the ridiculous voice chosen for the Duke by the narrator. There was no way that this voice could make you picture a handsome young man, it made him sound about 70

Nice story ruined by Americanisms
Loved the story beautifully narrated with a great range of voices, but the lack of understanding of behaviour at the time undoes the good groundwork of character development.
Sticking points for me were...
It would have been considered the height of bad manners to congratulate a lady on her marriage/wedding, it should be the gentleman on his choice of bride. Hands on hips (a stance absolutely reserved for the working class) as would poking a gentleman in the chest would never have been acceptable in private let alone a public setting.
The expression 'I guess' (used quite frequently in this book) rarely used in England only really popular in the last few decades as a cross over from popular American usage.
The story was sweet even though these cultural mishaps came through, I will be following the series through as the narrator is outstanding.

Sooooooo BOOOOOORING ….
This must have been one of the most boring books I listened to in a very long time!!!!
The story is so ridiculous- but that could have been accepted if it wasn’t dragged on and on AND ON !!!!
It doesn’t help when the narrator speaks in such a bored voice - lacking excitement and splendour BUT on the other hand - if the story does give it - how is she to spice it up
WASTE OF MONEY OR POINT !!!

A nothing story.
There are set scenarios through out, however they disconnected to the rest of the story, but used for U-turns.
It opens with a set scenario that forces the marriage. Then, with repetitive and long explanations. The point is driven home that it will be "a white wedding." You are drowned in the self-pity of the main characters. She thinks she killed her mother, and he feels "love" drove his father to kill himself. Those are the main themes of the story. Then, half way through the story, without explanation, the hero decides a "white wedding" is no longer needed. The heroine, despite being "a strong woman," bends willing to her husband dictates.
The ending scenario is even more bizarre. Then, to plump up the story, there are chapters of rapid sex.
The narrator, despite her weird character voices, fades into the background with such a tedious story.
