About this listen
An enthralling novel set in early 19th-century England, Paris, and New York, featuring an indomitable young heroine who rises from ruin to become the toast of Paris, by way of the chic bordello she establishes for the most powerful men in France.
Turned out of her ancestral home by her vicious half brother, the orphaned daughter of an English duke and a French noblewoman makes her way to Paris and takes in abused French streetwalkers, transforming them into sought-after courtesans in the city's most exclusive bordello, Le Boudoir. It is only the beginning of her return to the upper reaches of society and ultimate justice.

easy listen
Bit repetative at times, almost like a recap every couple of chapters. However it was easy to listen to, good story and engaging. Narration soothing.

A beautiful story of life and hardship, thankfully truth and love shines through and bring justice to wrongs done to innocent young lives .

Danielle has still got the touch!
If you're a fan then you won't be disappointed with The Duchess as it romps along at a good pace travelling from England to France to New York and has the usual twists and turns. One of her historical novels, and I prefer her contemporary ones, but the skill is to keep her listener entertained and that is exactly what Danielle Steel achieves. Now that I have finished this book I find myself thinking about the characters and missing them. The heroine can be a bit too good to be true and the coincidences are sometimes far fetched but on the whole I got what I wanted, a jolly good story that took me away from everyday life for a couple of days. The narrator was excellent. We don't usually get a British reader! And his American accent was superb as were all his many character portrayals. Well done. Danielle is prolific, and writes a few books each year. I recommend this one and eagerly await my next feel good fix.

Feel good book
Really enjoyed this book. DS can sometimes be a little predictable, this book wasn't. It had some twists and turns and was a very enjoyable read.

Mediocre at best
Another novel rustled off. Not in the same league as her older Novels. These days you get an occasional exceptional story from Ms Steel but sadly this wasn't one of them. Gideon Emery a fabulous narrator.

Historic fluff
This is written for the brain dead. There is no subtlety and it is just a series of improbable disasters. Good narration.

A pleasant novel, but why the anachronisms?
A pleasant novel to listen to, but oh why has the author done such little research for her “period piece”? Christmas trees and Life Peers in George IV’s reign? Diapers and the use of the term gotten in England? This spoils the story and the flow is stalled by how the narrator mangles the pronunciation of English words. Sad that these niggles appear in what should be an easy to hear historical romance.
