About this listen

Two sisters. One enchanted forest. And a reckless choice that could destroy kingdoms …

Taken away from her ordinary life, Rose Valrois finds herself in a world full of secrets and forbidden magic. There she meets her new stepsister, the enigmatic Princess Neeve, who will either become her best friend … or her worst enemy.

In the shadows of the magical Darkwood, Rose discovers danger and adventure in her quest for answers about the mysteries surrounding her. When she’s rescued by Thorne, the Dark Elf guardian of the forest, he binds her to the Darkwood and forbids her to speak of its secrets.

But secrets have a way of getting loose, especially when there’s hidden magic involved, and Rose falls deeper into the thorny tangles of her own past. Her sister, Neeve, is concealing dangerous powers of her own, and the two of them are soon entangled in a destiny that will bring them face-to-face on opposite sides of a deadly magical war.

Ultimately, Rose must risk her freedom, her world, and even her truest love to save her sister. Can she bear to make that sacrifice? Does she even have the choice?

Called “A fantastical series” by Publishers Weekly, USA Today bestselling author Anthea Sharp has crafted a lushly written fairy-tale trilogy weaving elements of “Snow-White and Rose-Red” with romance, magic, cozy fantasy, and secrets that that will change the fate of worlds.

Reading engrossing

Excellent narration would recommend completely engrossing and easy to pick back up if left for a while

listened to it all

few bits were a bit cringe, badly or childishly written.
annoyingly hopeless lack of action from main character near end of the books. could have done alot more, felt like I was screaming at the main character to help or do something useful for alot of it. seemed like alot of dumb decisions and as of she couldn't jump to obvious conclusions on her own had to have everything clearly spelled out for her over and over. otherwise it was okay. I've turned worse books off but probably wouldn't be telling anyone about how great it was since it was very average for the most part

I just really enjoyed

This series was fantastic you would not think it but once you hear the story it’s brilliant.

Riveting

Loved this trilogy and narrator was very good , though to English ears the words riffling and shone were mispronounced !

Easy listen

Narrator was good used voice effectively to distinguish between characters. The story was easy to follow and listen to drawing you in to the dark elf realm.

Two books in which nothing happens

The story is well narrated and the world is beautifully build. However, in the first two books everything that happens could have been said within a prologue. There is not much going on other than the relation development between the main character and her sister. It starts off when they are 13, and it feels like almost everyday is described until they turn 16.

one of the worst books

I listened to the whole cringeworthy thing just to check if one of the main characters friends from the city she grew up in would be ever introduced (he was not!). it was terrible. The narrator did her best, bless her. I don't think she thought anyone would ever get through the whole thing
