Summary

Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy. While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he - or she - has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.

Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own? And if not, who will help her succeed - and who among the following will work secretly to see her fail?

There is a handsome rugby player, a sexy plumber, a charlatan reporter and a selection of meddling locals. Add in a hit-and-run incident and the disappearance of a valuable engraved necklace, and what you get is a journey of self-discovery and unpredictable events. With surprising and heartfelt results, Rosa, accompanied at all times by her sausage dog Hot, will slowly unravel the shadowy secrets of the inheritance and also bring her own long-hidden heritage into the light.

A bit disappointed

I really liked the look of this book and the story was really quite good but the narrator let it down for me. The main character was ok but the Devonshire locals all sounded slow and creepy. I nearly sent the book back because of it but as the story was quite good I decided to finish it.

So very pleased I ignored negativity

What an intriguingly, war, funny, sad and above all wonderful tale of the human heart, tragedy and resilience. Having read some of the negative comments regarding the narrator, I was slightly wary, but went for it anyway. So very pleased I did. As for the narrator? I think her somewhat girlish tone was just right!

light reading, chick lit I guess

pleasant enough light story, I just wanted something wirhout too much tension for listening to when resting. however for me the narrators voice is irritating, at least the voice she used is.

Predictable but easy listen

I travel a lot so easy listens are for me. Not taken with the narrator so will not chose a title read by her again. I wasn't impressed with the accent or voices used, personal preference. Predictable story with descriptive setting.

The Corner Shop in Cockleberry Bay

I enjoyed listening to this very much. A very entertaining book. A nice tale of being left something in a Will , going to live at the seaside and opening a pet shop. With all life happening around her. Easy listening
And a book to listen to when doing the ironing. Thank you.
