About this listen
The Asperger's Syndrome Bible for parents and professionals, newly updated with an introduction explaining the DSM-5
The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome is the definitive handbook for anyone affected by Asperger's syndrome (AS). Now including a new introduction explaining the impact of DSM-5 on the diagnosis and approach to AS, it brings together a wealth of information on all aspects of the syndrome for children through to adults.
Drawing on case studies and personal accounts from Attwood's extensive clinical experience, and from his correspondence with individuals with AS, this book is both authoritative and extremely accessible. Chapters examine:
* causes and indications of the syndrome
* the diagnosis and its effect on the individual
* theory of mind
* the perception of emotions in self and others
* social interaction, including friendships
* long-term relationships
* teasing, bullying and mental health issues
* the effect of AS on language and cognitive abilities, sensory sensitivity, movement and co-ordination skills
* career development.
There is also an invaluable frequently asked questions chapter and a section listing useful resources for anyone wishing to find further information on a particular aspect of AS, as well as literature and educational tools.
Essential reading for families and individuals affected by AS as well as teachers, professionals and employers coming in contact with people with AS, this book should be on the bookshelf of anyone who needs to know or is interested in this complex condition.
'I usually say to the child, "Congratulations, you have Asperger's syndrome", and explain that this means he or she is not mad, bad or defective, but has a different way of thinking.'

A revelation 🎉
Very detailed and informative book about Asperger’s, a valuable resource for parents, teachers and anyone affected by or interested in autism. The soothing voice of the narrator is an added bonus. Many thanks 🙏 to all involved in the production of this audiobook 😀

Amazingly insightful
I found out I am on the high functioning end of the autistic spectrum recently
This book has revealed alot to me, some of which i found upsetting for some reason. But overall it was really helpful and now i have a whole reading list to get through
LOL the only thing i disagree with was "Britan is very tolarent of people with autism" eh no.. no no no not at all. Where did he hear that propaganda? BBC radio no doubt. No I don't think Britan is up to scratch at all supporting people with autism. My school would just let them get bullied and did nothing to really help.

A short review by a recently diagnosed,
As someone who got recently diagnosed in his 30's through therapy, i found that this book to hold some good information for my future now that the puzzle pieces of my past and present are starting to fall into place.
While a lot of the researcher information comes from children or parents of asperger children do not be discouraged by this, it will aid you to gain a better understanding even if you are long past your teenage years or not a parent,
It is detailed and broad enough that you will run into plenty of things you can identify with and things you do not, cause after all even on the spectrum we are all different
How this book compares to others on the subject is hard to say as this is my first book on this matter, i did not feel that the author belittled or me or made me feel odd, pretty much the opposite, it is based on research and experience and so the information presented is not overly negative or positive, it simply is what it is and for that reason it also pretty much reads as a guide book.
The narrator voice was also calm and clear but by the end of the book you kind of tire hearing the term "Asperger Syndrome"
However, the book does end on an overly optimistic note but you cannot fault the author for that, considering a message of hope through self-acceptance is what most of us need.

Red as my Son diagnosed at 13
I’m a parent of a newly diagnosed teen with a high functioning ASD (Asperger’s)
I found this book really helpful and a great introduction to the subject as I start on my learning of the subject.
It was really interesting to read and see all the behaviours of my son that are a part of ASD
Very helpful

Perfectly Narrated.
Full of insight from an obviously compassionate, respectful and experienced professional. Very well explained with anecdotal examples. Presented in an easy to follow speech pattern.
As a late self diagnosed Autistic person this has given me a greater understanding of myself whilst I go through the official diagnosis process. I wish I had listened to this before my prediagnostic appointment as I now recognise a great deal more within myself that could be useful to the diagnostician. Highly recommended.

One of the best books I've ever read
Pros: 1) High-yield and extremely informative 2) World class narration 3) The perfect resource for those studying psychology/psychiatry, or who have the condition themselves. Cons: NONE.

Still one of the most informative books on HFA
Tony Attwood is a mind of information when it comes to the complex topic of Autism. Written in a way that is easy to understand and always non judgemental.
