About this listen
Listen to The Climb, Anatoli Boukreev (portrayed by Ingvar Sigurðsson in the film Everest) and G. Weston DeWalt’s compelling account of those fateful events on Everest.
In May 1996, three expeditions attempted to climb Mount Everest on the Southeast Ridge route pioneered by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. Crowded conditions slowed their progress. Late in the day twenty-three men and women—including expedition leaders Scott Fischer and Rob Hall—were caught in a ferocious blizzard. Disoriented and out of oxygen, climbers struggled to find their way down the mountain as darkness approached. Alone and climbing blind, Anatoli Boukreev brought climbers back from the edge of certain death.
“Powerful … a breath of brisk, sometimes bitter clarity … Boukreev did the one thing that denies the void. He took action. He chose danger, and he saved lives.”—The New York Times Book Review

the narrative
I liked it all, it had me gripped from the beginning, and I felt the factual approach over that of dramatisation excellent.

Anatoli Speaks
It is good to understand these events from Anatoli himself. A must listen. This feels like an honest and truly heart felt account.

An incredible story told by an incredible climber
Having read Into Thin Air and some of the criticisms around the disaster I am so glad I have had the opportunity to hear this perspective. In all honesty my heart breaks for Boukreev as his heroism has gone largely uncelebrated. This is a brilliant book, well written and well performed and can strongly recommend it to anyone interested in either the disaster or in mountaineering.

Epic
No words to add. Loads of mistakes, ego and the modern communication. It's a great book to learn from and with... 🙏

Well written account of the tragedy.
I have read multiple accounts of this climb and consider this to be one of the best.
I feel that it is written in a matter of fact way without any embellishments to enhance or degrade anyone's participation in it.
unlike other books by other climbers on the route, it is not used to cast aspertions, dealing only with facts.
a very powerful account of a terrible incident which will live forever in the history of the mountain.

compelling!
I am an addictive armchair Everest climber! this was a good fix! I am glad he defended himself after being criticised by the novice climber Krakow.

it's okay. not as good as into thin air.
I don't blame Anatoli but it doesn't have the pull of into thin air. the reader was not good though.

raw and truthful
although not as exciting in characterisation of individuals as in to thin air ,I found that this book was based totaly on facts with insights by the author, and not assumptions of what others felt or guesses at reasons for certain actions , if you have read into thin air I recommend you read this to fully give the account balance ,remembering that krakaur was not in this teem and had very few insights into the mountain madness guides or clients
