Summary

From the best-selling author of the famous Mrs. Pollifax series comes another delightfully eccentric and sage female sleuth - the exotic Madame Karitska. Although she is a genuine countess, Marina Elena Provovnitchek Gaylord Von Domm Karitska is foremost a psychic. When one of her clients turns up dead, Madame Karitska makes the acquaintance of Detective-Lieutenant Pruden, and an uncanny partnership is born. Madame Karitska forms images with the psychic vibrations she picks up from personal objects. Her shocking visions are at odds with outward appearances and Detective Pruden finds it difficult to believe in them. But as Madame Karitska uses her amazing powers to help him solve case after dangerous case, even the skeptic becomes convinced. With The Clairvoyant Countess, Dorothy Gilman has used her own amazing powers to create a character who is both awe-inspiring and lovable. Ruth Ann Phimister’s keen sense of timing and characterization let you too believe in the wonder that is Madame Karitska.

very enjoyable

a detective with a difference. Well read, good characters and plot. I hope there's another book to follow this as it definitely could work as a pleasant series. A nice cosy crime novel that's easy to listen to

So well written

I've never written a review before finishing a book but this book is so strong I'm doing that very thing.
Total credit to how Dorothy Gilman has written the main character.
I'm a clairvoyant Shaman and this is such a genuine description of how I work, with thought and caring often we are asked to help in a situation and then I stick my neck out because I feel someone else needs help so much more. I'm well-read and have studied many years and this is one of the first adaptations that acknowledge how careful and aware we are about what we say and the ramifications of our words. I love this character because she she grace, integrity, and genuine foresight.

If you'd like a genuine, soft insight into the life of being a psychic this is it. Having no money but trusting that the money will come to be able to pay our bills. I was 24 hours of needing to pay my rent, with only half the money, and said ok I trust. Two hours later the phone rang and the person on the other end said you helped me when I was at my lowest I've just had a bonus and I'm sending you some money. I thanked the person and it was the exact amount of money I needed to pay the rent. This is the real life of a genuine psychic, we live hand to mouth and trust.
The story is very good the characters are well-written. I hope you enjoy this book.

The Clairvoyant Countess

Beautifully read. Loved the book. So nice to read something that’s not all about murder, but is still gripping.

A great listen

Great characters who become important to each through a series of short stories, each encouraging to think more critically and outside the proverbial box. Great mystery stories that entertain and encourage thought. And great performances by the narrator.

Such fun!

I really didn't want this one to end - lots of intriguing, enigmatic and fun mysteries featuring a beguiling and beautiful clairvoyant living in a normal, rather skeptical American town. All the mysteries blend seamlessly into one glorious novel. Sometimes with a novel which focuses on just one mystery with all its twists and turns, one can easily lose the plot; with this novel, however, I could happily dip in and out. Beautiful narration! I can't imagine that clairvoyants actually pick up so much detail in real life, but who wants real life when they're reading? It was such fun to suspend disbelief! Of course, now I long to have the talents and grace of Mme. Karinska!
